Malone’s Educational Consulting Counseling Advisory

MECC is driven by the love and passion to help provide urban minority youth the best opportunity for success. Unfortunately many urban male students face factors outside of school that hinder their social and academic development. These “outside factors” in turn create a disconnection between non-minority teachers, administrators, who have diffi

Why More California Schools Start in Early August 08/15/2016

Why More California Schools Start in Early August For some children in Los Angeles County, the first day of school has seemed to move earlier and earlier into August. That change has left some parents wondering what happened to school typically starting...

How Growing Up Without A Dad Affects A Man 06/11/2016

"As I went to high school the questions grew bigger. Why did he leave me? Was I completely unlovable?...The older I got, the more I grew angry."
"Now, a few years after college, I'm finally recognizing just how damaging a father choosing to leave his son can be."

It took this man many years to accept his father abandoning him. Whether we face it or not, our children are hurting everyday. It eats at them affecting their decisions and self-esteem. It can not be done alone. Reach out and build positive relationships where uplifting can happen. Be humble, show selflessness, and do whatever it takes to give your child what they deserve.

Our goal is to provide support to help build up our young men. With compassion, empathy, exposure, and self-esteem building we hope to change their vision of what they're worth.

'You Talk White:' Being Black and Articulate 11/10/2015

Our young men face problems with deep roots, stretching far beyond one simple explanation.

'You Talk White:' Being Black and Articulate All of my black friends have been told at some point or another during their lifetime that they "talk white." The person who says it likely doesn't know many black people. Black people are generally seen as uneducated thugs. I do not appear to be an uneducated thug. Therefore, I must talk white.

Great event tonight @ Noir Unicorn. Gatherers shared their thoughts on topics that haunt our black communities, where even our most acclaimed philosophers, analytics, and theorist haven't found success. The answer is in us, the community, the people who walk and drive the streets daily. If we band together and create one voice, we can see changes.
We must make it our personal obligation to invest in our communities.

Thanks Noir Unicorn for the opportunity to share my mission. When we create opportunities for dialogue within our communities, real change can happen!

Teacher Ends Fight Like a Boss 11/05/2015

The point of focus in this video should be, the relationship between the teacher and the two quarreling young men. Unfortunately, many teachers deal with classroom behavior that is detrimental to the learning environment. The real discussion should be surrounded around, "what is the proper way to address behavior like this?", and "how do we get our young men to work together, not against one another? ". I can assure you, the two young men in this video, are watching it spread, and are reading many of the comments. If they are not, their peers surely are.
What message are we sending our kids? This only perpetuates the stereotype that so many Black Americans are fighting so hard against.
The relationships that we build with our young men directly effect their behavior. If these two young men knew that people cared about them, if they knew the teacher cared about their future, if the students knew the teacher believed they were worth something substantial; maybe they wouldn't have acted this way. Maybe.

How do we reach our young men? Young people are easily influenced both positively and negatively. If we surround the young men with positive productive relationships; the possibilities for growth are astonishing.

“Losing 19:″ Young Black Men and Jail 09/26/2015

This "outburst" moved me today. I think it masterfully summarizes the agony, and emotional heartbreak many single mothers' feel.

“Losing 19:″ Young Black Men and Jail Throwback Thursday Clip: In 2009, Judge Lynn wrote an article titled "Losing 19" about young men who think jail time is easier than making the right choices....

In 2013, Los Angeles Unified School District graduated ONLY 41% of their black male students.
Isn't that scary? Our children, right here in Los Angeles, are not receiving what they need to be successful.

MECC's primary goal is to fight against this staggering statistic. Contact MECC today to find out how you and your child can join this fight.
