Time for another fieldtrip! Join paleontologist Austin Hendy and geologist Kevin Coffey at Cabrillo Beach in sunny San Pedro this Saturday (11 am) for geology, paleontology, and marine biology between the tides. Anyone welcome. No RSVP necessary. Suitable for kids, seniors, and any in between who are confident around the rock pools (sturdy shoes are important) and have a fervor for learning! More details below.

Folks, it's time for another walk & talk to explore the fascinating geology & paleontology of the Palos Verdes Peninsula!
Join us for βA Walk with Whalesβ this Saturday with our special guest, Jorge Velez-Juarbe, Marine Mammal Curator at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Dr Velez-Juarbe will talk about the rich marine mammal fossils of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. After a easy going introduction to the geology and fossils of the area, we will hike down Bluff Cove Trail and hunt for some rocks and fossils on the beach below.

Folks, we had so much fun bringing you Los Angeles Underwater and the Fossil Discovery evening with the Palos Verdes Gem and Mineral Society that we at it again. Join Kevin Coffey of UCLA and Austin Hendy of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County for a series of short weekend walks, talks, and hikes exploring the rocks and fossils of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. If you're a South Bay rock nerd, fossil fanatic, or history buff, you'll want to join us for some outdoor fresh air, fun, and learning. First event is Saturday February 5th at 11 am. No RSVP. Meet us by the fountain at the top of the bluff for an overview, then a walk down the ramp to explore the rocks by the shore, and then join us for a picnic and more conversations (lunch NOT provided).

Happy New Year friends! Tomorrow night at the Peninsula Center Library we'll be bringing a fossil dig to you! Join Curator of Invertebrate Paleontology Dr. Austin Hendy to explore fossils collected from around the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This will be a kid friendly event (suggested grades 3 and up), there will be a scavenger hunt activity, take home fossils, and prizes. In light of the omicron surge the Palos Verdes Gem and Mineral Society are taking precautions to keep everyone safe, but please do bring your masks!

Members of the Southern California Paleontological Society heard Cullen Townsend (https://www.cullentownsenddesign.com) and Dr Austin Hendy speak this last weekend about their new project to bring Euna, Los Angeles' local giant ammonite, to life.
