Meet our Top-Notch Trojan, Shaina McNeely!

I joined Keck Medicine of USC in January 2022 and have been proud to grow alongside the Las Vegas team over the past four years. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Development with a concentration in Family Studies, and in 2025, I completed my Master of Science in Human Resource Management at USC (Fight On!). I currently serve as an Executive Assistant supporting the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Administrator at Keck Community Medical Group (KCMG) in Nevada. In my role, I support leadership alignment, streamline communication and operations across multiple sites, and contribute to initiatives that impact both organizational effectiveness and employee experience.

When I first joined the Las Vegas team, I also operated as an “all-in-one” HR resource during a period before dedicated HR leadership was in place locally… [and] had the opportunity to collaborate on our Focused Coaching initiative, and lead, train, and implement the Standards of Work project for Clinic Managers across three health centers.

What I enjoy most about my work is being able to connect the human side of the business with the operational side in a meaningful way… I’m passionate about helping leaders think more intentionally about how their decisions impact people, and about building systems and environments that support both performance and well-being. When operations and human capital are truly aligned, it not only strengthens the organization — it creates a better experience for everyone within it.

Elisa Vazquez nominated Shaina for embodying the Unifying Value of Excellence! Here’s what Elisa had to say: “Shaina has the clearest communication I've ever experienced with a teammate. If she is unsure about something, she doesn't hesitate to ask. She strives to communicate in a way we can all understand. She is always helpful when the team has questions, even if it's guiding them to the correct person…She amazes me with how she keeps track of organizing our meetings, agendas, and calendars. It's not easy working with so many different leader personalities and styles, yet she does it with respect and grace. I have the utmost respect for her and her role in this team.”

Meet our Top-Notch Trojan, Angela Martinez!

This year, I am proud to celebrate my 25th year of service with the university. I currently serve as a Senior Program Administrator, where I have the privilege of leading an incredible team and serving as the Operations Manager for multiple surgical education and training facilities at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. In this role, I help support the training of our medical students, interns, and residents, while also serving as a liaison between surgical faculty and leading surgical product providers. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is witnessing the growth of our general surgery residents from their intern year through graduation, and providing a safe, supportive environment for our learners, faculty, and hospital staff.

The best piece of advice I ever received came from my mom, who told me, “Hard work always pays off.” Throughout my career at University of Southern California, I have carried those words with me in everything I do. I have applied that advice by consistently working hard, staying committed to my team and our mission, and always being willing to take on new challenges. Over the years, that dedication has helped me grow and advance in my career, and it continues to motivate me every day.

Mariana Erika Martinez nominated Angela for embodying the Unifying Value of Open Communication! Here’s what Mariana had to say: “At USC, sharing openly and honestly is essential to fostering trust and engagement across our diverse community of faculty, staff, students, patients, and partners. My supervisor exemplifies this principle every day. They are authentic and transparent in sharing information, whether the news is positive or challenging, they ensure that our team feels informed, included, and respected. They build trust, and that trust empowers our team members to learn, lead, innovate, and create with confidence…At the same time, they are thoughtful about confidentiality, always handling sensitive matters with professionalism and integrity….Open communication is not just encouraged, it is modeled.”

Meet our Top-Notch Trojan, Juan Ruiz!

Hi there! I joined the university in 2020 and I am currently the Academic Programs Coordinator. In my role, I help schools maintain and create programs. I’m also the Special Assistant to the University Registrar, Dr. Frank Chang, offering support and working with our various departments, including Grades, Classroom Scheduling, and Registration and Diploma, which offer services to our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

I like to engage in social welfare here at the university and beyond – a position informed by a quote I read from Nelson Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I grew up in the neighborhood surrounding USC and desire to see our children grow and shine powerfully. I’ve also been a member of Xipe Totec Traditional Aztec Dancers since 1993. We support social welfare through workshops and presentations on Aztec Dance, working with communities locally, nationally, and in Mexico. I believe this tradition strengthens and promotes community empowerment.

Jacquelyn Celestino nominated Juan for embodying the Unifying Value of Community! Here’s what Jacquelyn had to say: “Juan fosters a collaborative and supportive environment within our office, consistently demonstrating a willingness to assist colleagues, share knowledge, and contribute to team efforts that support our shared goals. He approaches work with respect and consideration for others, which helps create a positive and inclusive atmosphere. His commitment to teamwork and open communication strengthens our ability to serve students effectively and reinforces a strong sense of community within our workplace.”
