The LA Residency examined innovative policy and legal frameworks for addressing climate change, adaptation, and pollution. A few of the big ideas: Make fact-based decisions and take science-based actions. Provide clear, sustained targets for industry to work towards. Progression from funding R&D to incentives and standards = success. Importance of sufficient – but not excessive – lead time. Collaborations can leverage technology pe*******on. The monetary cost of pollution exceeds the cost of clean-up. Understanding and leveraging the age of low-cost air monitors and citizen-based science will be critical to managing policy risk and advancing protective public policy. Envision the world you want to create!

Big idea: the power of incentives in the absence of regulatory authority to change behavior, reduce pollution and address climate change.
