Where children are free to play and learn!

Each year, our Elementary Group heads to Mount Baldy for a beloved overnight camping tradition hosted by longtime PMP community member and school architect Gregg Fleishman. With the guidance of Co-Head Teacher Nelly and their teachers, students stepped outside their comfort zones, practiced independence, and connected with one another in new ways. The trip gave the students space to trust themselves and strengthen their group bond.

This past weekend, more than 200 community members showed up and showed out for one of Play Mountain Place’s most beloved traditions, the Spring Bazaar. With 28 student-run booths, live music, performances, handmade goods, food, drinks, and plenty of confetti eggs, the day was full of creativity and community.

Proceeds from the Bazaar support our scholarship program, but at its heart, this tradition is about joy, learning, entrepreneurial spirit, and children feeling free. Thank you to everyone who helped make this special day possible.

Last weekend, Play Mountain hosted 45 preschool teachers and directors from across Southern California for a Play Matters tour, offering a closer look at the child-centered philosophy at the heart of our school. It was a powerful opportunity to share Play Mountain’s mission more broadly and inspire other educators to carry these values into their own communities.

A beloved annual Play Mountain tradition since 1996, Multicultural Day celebrated culture, creativity, and community. The day featured performances from across our community, highlighting a wide range of talents through singing, dancing, and cultural expression, including Kaki Lambe, a Malinke drum, dance, and song tradition rooted in prayer for community wellness.

Together, these moments honored who we are, embraced our differences, and celebrated our shared humanity of Play Mountain Place to be child-centered and community-oriented.

For more than 50 years, architect and artist Gregg Fleishman, Play Mountain’s original school architect and the founder’s son, has shared his work with us. Last week, he returned to campus with his interlocking wooden structures, working alongside students as they explored how design, balance, and problem-solving come to life through hands-on building.
