What guitar players understand that cellists don’t - and how to close the gap fast.

Guitarists, keyboardists, and horn players tend to move across their instruments with speed and ease.
For many cellists, the fingerboard still feels resistant.

That difference isn’t about talent.
It’s about how the fingerboard is conceptualized.

I’ve been working on a framework called Three Finger Theory that reframes how cellists organize the fingerboard, making fast playing feel cleaner, more reliable, and far more natural.

When this clicks, you start to notice:
- Smoother patterns and transitions
- Better control at higher speeds
- A level of fluency cellists are rarely taught to access

The goal isn’t speed for its own sake. It’s freedom.
I’ve now put this framework together as a full course for members of the Improviser’s Guide to the Cello.

If you’re not inside yet, you can join our next free class and get a feel for why this approach is different.
