The National Lawyers Guild of Los Angeles (NLG-LA) is deeply saddened by the loss of Kent Wong, a longtime activist and powerful leader in the labor and immigrant rights movement. Kent
was a tremendous force for justice and he leaves behind a strong foundation for us to continue the struggle and apply all that he taught us. Kent was an uncompromising and tireless fighter for
workers, immigrants, students, and others of the most vulnerable in our community.

Kent was much beloved by the NLG-LA family. He epitomized our core value of emphasizing human rights over property rights. During his long tenure as UCLA Labor Center Director, Kent
hosted all of the NLG-LA board meetings, membership meetings and workshops at the UCLA Downtown Center in MacArthur Park, which just reopened as the new UCLA James Lawson Jr.
Worker Justice Center. Kent always served as the MC of our annual awards banquets, and was himself an honoree at one of them. Kent was truly committed to the projects and work of NLG LA. Kent always sought ways to support our work. He represented for us the true meaning of radical solidarity.

Kent Wong was one of the kindest. nicest and most loving members of the broader movement for social and economic justice in America. Our hearts go out to his family, close friends, and all who were touched by him. Today we honor Kent, his strong legacy and the path that he created for us to continue the fight for justice. Rest in Power, Kent Wong.

Dorothy Height, born in 1912, was a leader in the fight for civil rights.

She was a social worker, YWCA leader and the president of the National Council of Negro Women. President Obama called her "the godmother of the Civil Rights Movement."
