Let's Talk About: Why Summer Can Feel Harder Than Expected ☀️
For many kids, teens, and young adults, summer sounds relaxing in theory… but the loss of structure can actually create more overwhelm, dysregulation, and conflict at home.
Without the routines of school, executive functioning skills like time management, emotional regulation, planning, and communication suddenly require a lot more independent effort.
The good news? Summer is also a powerful season for skill building.
Less structure doesn’t have to mean chaos. Finding your summer rhythm starts with understanding what support actually helps your child thrive.
At New Agenda Coaching, we help clients and families better understand how executive functioning impacts everyday life, especially during seasons of transition, and build strategies that support more confidence, communication, and independence. 😎

Routine serves as an anchor in our daily lives. Maintaining a consistent schedule fosters independence and helps everyone stay grounded. Because a predictable day leads to a more relaxed and focused mindset!
Here are a few easy ways to build structure into your summer schedule:
🔹 Morning Routine: Start with a consistent wake-up time, breakfast, and daily responsibilities like brushing teeth, getting dressed, and making beds.
🔹 Staying Active: Plan for daily physical activity such as walking, biking, swimming, or playing outside.
🔹 Daily "Brain Dump": Write down tasks on a whiteboard to clear mental clutter.
🔹 Micro-Steps: Break big tasks into tiny pieces (e.g., "gather laundry," "start machine," "fold") rather than "do laundry".

Routine is not a chore, it's a safety net.
Unstructured time can feel freeing at first, but for many of our clients, it can quickly lead to feeling stuck. When we lose our daily rhythm, everything from emotional regulation to basic organization becomes a steeper uphill climb.
Our summer coaching isn't about doing more work, it’s about maintaining the systems that make life feel manageable.
By maintaining these skills over the summer, we ensure that the transition into fall feels like a natural step forward rather than a stressful change.

Happy Mother’s Day 🌷
Today, we’re celebrating the many roles mothers hold, as caregivers, leaders, advocates, and everything in between.
At New Agenda, that includes our founders, Maria and Amie, as well as the many mothers on our team and in our community who bring care, structure, and support into everything they do.
The work we do every day is shaped by that same commitment.💚
