He was covered in fly eggs along with some freshly hatched maggots, yesterday. We worked quickly to remove them. He had no control over his limbs. He would try hard to move them but there was simply no coordination. He couldn’t get anywhere. He is otherwise in perfect health. He is not thin. His coat looks wonderful. His blood clotted normally.
He just - couldn’t control his legs. It must have just happened, as he would not be in such great body condition if this had happened a while ago.
He could have been hit by a car - though he shows no signs of blunt force trauma. There are no abrasions. There are no cuts.
He could have a virus that is affecting him neurologically.
He could have eaten something toxic that is affecting him as well.
It’s hard to know. He received multiple baths to remove the larva and eggs on him. He was given IV fluids to attempt to flush out any toxins. He is being syringe fed, as that is the only way he will eat right now.
This morning, he seems to have regained use of his front legs.
Now we dare to hope for a full recovery…
