TESTING WITHOUT TEARS!
HOW CAN WE TEST IN A WAY THAT GUARANTEES SUCCESS and doesn't trigger discouragement? Educator Patricia Oelwein formulated "Errorless Testing" many years ago. Matching-Selecting-Naming. I've added a 4th and final step, that of Generalizing. Here's a great visual of how to do Matching-Selecting-Naming. For info on generalizing by using Personal Pages, all the details are in my book WHOLE CHILD READING. For fast access, go to my Linktree. www.linktr.ee/nataliehalespecialreads

3 MORE QUESTIONS I get asked!
1. I’m not a teacher; how will I know how to teach my child this program?
2. Will it confuse my child if I teach this program at home, but the school isn’t using it?
3. I’m a visual learner, and I need to SEE how to teach this program. Do you have a YT channel? (Yes, with 260+ videos!)

1. Is there a prerequisite to starting the Whole Child Reading program? Does my daughter need to know her letter sounds and names before starting?

I'M STILL HERE! In case you're wondering where I went! Just super busy with teaching my current 7-Week Certification Course. It's a deep dive into the Whole Child Reading Method, so that is where I'm living right now! "Under the sea..."🎼🎹
I'm thrilled with this current group...I limit participants to 6 because of the amount of individual atttention I give. This group spans moms from Honolulu to the country of Jordan. It's awesome! We neet for 2 hours a week on Zoom, and we have a private WhatsApp group that provides a fabulous space for Q&A on an ongoing basis.
I offer this only 3 times a year, and I don't advertise it on my site. The next course is SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER, and yes, I am taking placeholder reservations now. The info link is in my Linktree URL: www.linktr.ee/nataliehalespecialreads

JUST FOR FUN, I’VE INVENTED A SYNDROME. Actually, just for clarity in teaching. “FOF SYNDROME” is FEAR OF FAILURE SYNDROME. And most of our learners with Down syndrome deal with this syndrome. It pushes them into “wild guessing” when it comes to reading, or flat-out refusing to cooperate with a task. One glance at a task, and they KNOW it’s too hard. So what do we do? Easy-peasy. “Whole Child Reading” gives solutions that I have seen work over and over again in challenging situations. In a recent WCR Certification Course that I taught, we saw a dramatic transition: from a child screaming NO!!! to her mom who was valiantly trying to teach her, to that same child cooperating and affectionately stroking her mom’s hand during the reading lesson. Amazing. You can find the direct Amazon link here: www.linktr.ee/nataliehalespecialreads

Let’s reach the goal together. Here is an eye-opening book that can help you get there. Find the direct link to Amazon here: www.linktr.ee/nataliehalespecialreads

I've given you peeks inside my DS Parenting 101 book: some humorous, some insightful, and now here's one that goes into the "school placement" question...something we all have to face eventually. This is just a snippet; the book gives tons of helpful information on what can be a tricky topic.

I assumed this myth was fact when my son with Down syndrome was just 4. That was in 1989, and I was completely unaware of reality. Fortunately, a mentor came into mu life to show me how to teach my son to read, and by age 8, he was an independent reader, happily devouring books. I had to create all the materials myself, but today we have help. Over the next 25 years, I developed the WHOLE CHILD READING PROGRAM, and it's available for YOU. A growing body of research tells us that our learners with DS or autism are strong visual learners, and that there is a very effective way to teach them to read.
