올 해 추석을 맞아 ReconciliAsian은 추석을 축하하고 삶에 감사하고 서로를 지지하는 온라인 추석 서클을 진행합니다.

서클은 관계와 이야기 중심 공동체 대화모임입니다. 한 사람이 대화를 이끌거나 주도하기 보다, 참여자 모두가 동등하게 말하는 기회를 갖습니다. 서클의 모든 이야기 나눔은 초대입니다. 모든 질문에 답할 필요가 없으며, 말하기를 선택할 수 있습니다.

이전에 서클 경험이 없으셔도 괜찮습니다. 모든 분들을 환영합니다. 현존하며 서로의 이야기를 깊이 듣는 시간입니다.

As Chuseok approaches, a festive time of gathering and sharing family stories, ReconciliAsian and Letters to My Hometown are excited to collaborate in reaching out to divided families- families separated as a result of the Korean War.

Join us on September 18 at 4PM Eastern/1PM Pacific time for a conversation about how divided families can contribute a video letter to relatives in North Korea. Share with friends and family members (direct or descents of divided families) who might be interested in participating.

Park Ki Sup (박기섭), vividly recalls 광복절/Liberation Day in 1945. Park was only ten-years- old but he remembers being at his father’s crowded store hearing the surrender speech of Emperor Hirohito over the radio. His father was the owner of 관동양복점 in 종로 3가.

August 15, 1945 or 8.15 is the National Liberation Day of Korea. It is known in South Korea as 광복절, “the day the light returned.” North Korea refers to it as 조국해방의 날, “liberation of the fatherland day.” This is the only holiday celebrated by both Koreas to remember how the country was liberated from the colonial rule of Japan (1910-1945). We know the painful division and violence that followed 8.15 as foreign powers continued to grab control over the peninsula, but on this day, we pause and acknowledge the cloud of witnesses who struggled for freedom and those who continue the work of liberation locally and globally.

We feel honored to be part of the Drawing Hope Network that continues to grow! On 6.25 (the 76th commemoration of the Korean War), 17 translocal organizations from conflict affected regions gathered in South Korea to center the children’s messages of hope. Their pictures and words shamed the wise and the strong. They reminded us we cannot give up hope. Thank you Okedongmu Children in Korea for graciously hosting all of us to learn from each other and grow in understanding that our work is deeply interconnected. Cheers to 30 more years of building peace with tender tenacity in the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

The final day of Bienvenido facilitators training began with reviewing the foundational philosophy of the program: uplifting human dignity, dialogue, listening, cultural identity, community leadership, and hope.
