One of the most important values and lifelong skills we can instill in children is kindness and empathy towards others.

If you spend time with children today, pay attention to how they innately express kindness and empathy and reflect on how you encourage kindness as a daily practice in your home and/or your childcare setting.

Have a beautiful day and let’s be kind to one another! 💝

When you haven’t posted anything in months because you’ve been way too busy putting some love in the world by helping children and teachers manifest joy! 🥰

This video of Ava painting with watercolors, amidst the busy sounds of preschool morning arrival surrounding her, is a beautiful reminder of why I love what I do!

Last week, I facilitated a documentation workshop with a group of teachers in Nashville, Tennessee - an introduction to the role of documentation in the classroom. After watching a short video clip of Carla Rinaldi discussing the topic, this quote captured our attention and inspired a meaningful dialogue about the many layers and intentions behind the documentation process… giving deeper meaning to the term “making learning visible.”

You can view the clip on YouTube… and be inspired! 🤍

Empty paint jars offer so much possibility!
🫙✨🎨
Involving the children in choosing, pouring, mixing, creating, and naming their own colors of tempera paint is such a rich learning experience! Today we counted the jars, made a numbered list, and made plans for what colors to create! Tomorrow we start mixing… stay tuned for our final color palette!

Wishing everyone a wonderful school year! May the children learn new ways to express themselves and may the adults pause, breathe, and give them the space to do so!🤍

This post by really resonated with me! I couldn’t post the phrases here so please check out the full post on her Instagram account.

It was directed at parents, but I connected with these phrases from my point of view as an educator. The two that most stood out to me, which I hear educators say all the time, are
(1) “Use your words” and (2) “You get what you get and you don’t get upset.”

Her explanations of why these phrases shouldn’t be used were spot on! Basically, it comes down to RESPECTING CHILDREN AND THEIR FEELINGS! I feel strongly that this should be a priority for educators. Children deserve our utmost respect, just as we (as adults) would expect that same respect from others for ourselves.

Children learn what respect for others looks like when we show children that we not only respect their feelings but that THEIR FEELINGS ARE VALID, by
1)acknowledging how they feel and helping them through their process…
2)giving them the time and space to feel…
3)reflecting together with them to find the words for their thoughts, feelings and emotions.

I worked with a co-teacher named Ana Maria for 10 years and she would always say, “You get what you get and you can be upset.” I thought of her when I read this post, and our years of great work together. We learned a lot together on our path as educators❣️
