So important. Please be careful this summer around bodies of water and pools.
Drowning Prevention for Curious Toddlers: What Parents Need to Know Young children can drown in only a few inches of water, even if they’ve had swimming instruction. Whenever your child is near water, follow these safety rules.

I guess Janet Doman / the IAHP want me to shut down my website and social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest) immediately! Twelve years of writing under “Doman Mom” and they’re no longer cool with it, apparently because I accept donations on my website to help offset the cost of hosting and as a small token of appreciation for the tens of thousands of hours I’ve put into creating free materials. I guess they think I’m making bank on their name when in reality I barely break even for website costs AND have been living in a homeless shelter with my kids for two years. 💔 I may end up renaming everything to something without the term “Doman” but parents searching for Doman materials will no longer be able to find me easily. In case all things Doman Mom disappear from cyber space I just wanted to let you know why. 😔 Open to new name suggestions and also please share your thoughts with the IAHP.
I used this website to help teach Damien how to read shortly after his 3rd birthday. It was really helpful and engaging and effective! The website is always free, but the app usually costs $5. They're doing a special through the end of the week where you can get the app for free, though! Snag it while you can and you'll own it forever.
We got a YMCA membership this week which means we are back in business with swim lessons! I was a sad when we moved out of our place with a pool in June and didn't really have access to another one all summer. But this Y has open swim almost all day and all year, the pool is heated, and my little fish took to the water like, well, like a fish! 🐳💦🐠🏊🏼♀️
Great journaling ideas for 2- and early 3-year-olds (also appropriate for some 1-year-olds!)

Five Compelling Reasons For Teaching Spatial Reasoning To Young Children Research spanning several cognitive science disciplines shows a strong connection between early spatial reasoning training and future academic success.
What an interesting talk! I found it relevant to the language that we use with babies and toddlers, particularly in math. If we incorporate mathematical and numerical language into our conversations with our babies, they can develop the cognitive processes for mathematical reasoning at a very early age!
"People are only capable of constructing thoughts for which they possess actual words. And ultimately, that language is not just a way for us to express our thoughts; it actually plays a substantial role in creating them."

Toddlers aren’t ‘bad’—they’re little scientists and explorers! When your tot pushes your buttons, imagine her in a tiny white lab coat taking notes on her experiment—on you.

"When the children were 6, 14 and 24 months old, parents reported on how often they read together and how many books they had in the house—measures of the quantity of shared book reading. They also reported on the quality of that reading—whether they talked about the book, pointed to pictures, discussed the emotions and characters in the story and so on. After adjusting for socioeconomic differences and other confounding variables, the researchers found that the quantity and quality of book reading in early infancy predicted the size of a child’s vocabulary and early reading skills (quality was most important). Both quantity and quality of book reading in the toddler years predicted early literacy skills like name writing, beginning sound awareness and early reading skills."
The Magic of Reading Aloud to Babies New research shows even infants benefit from books and reading.
