Is Cognitive Overload Blocking Your Child's IEP Success?
As an education advocate, I see too many students struggle when their school accommodations don't account for Cognitive Overload.

All learning depends on a student’s limited mental resources (attention, processing speed, working memory). When a task overwhelms this capacity—like a lengthy assignment or complex instructions—learning stops, and frustration takes over.

If your child has an IEP or 504 plan, we need to ensure their accommodations are specifically addressing and reducing this cognitive burden!

We can help advocate for essential supports such as:

Chunking Assignments: Breaking down long tasks into manageable, smaller steps.

Reduced Visual Stimuli: Adjusting handouts, tests, and workspaces to limit distractions.

Extended Time for Processing: Ensuring time is allocated not just for doing the work, but for understanding the instructions.

Scribe/Assistive Technology: Reducing the cognitive load associated with the physical act of writing or note-taking.

If your child’s IEP is falling short, let's work together to identify the right accommodations to manage cognitive load and truly unlock their learning potential.

➡️ Contact me today for a consultation to review your child's IEP and advocate for the supports they deserve!

Great to have our latest campaign about how at least 1 in 3 entrepreneurs are dyslexic featured in the London Evening Standard.

Through this campaign, and alongside our brilliant partners Virgin StartUp, Virgin Unite and Virgin, we are empowering a movement for change – where dyslexics finally feel proud of how they think and are sharing this with the world.

As Richard Branson says: “I hope this campaign inspires any dyslexic out there with an idea, big or small, to explore it further."

As the new school year kicks off, it's the perfect time to make sure your child with an IEP is set up for success!

Did you know that you have the right to request a 30-day IEP review? This means within the first 30 school days, you can meet with the school team to discuss and update your child's Individualized Education Program.

A lot can change over the summer, and this review is a great way to:

Make sure your child's new teacher understands their needs.

Discuss any changes in goals or abilities.

Confirm that services and accommodations are in place.

To request a meeting, just send a written note to the school administration or your child's case manager. A simple step can make a big difference!
