LOS ANGELES (October 23, 2013) —Researchers from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Los Angeles, UC San Diego and UC Santa Cruz received Fellowships and a Grant for their work in addressing educational inequalities in California’s public school system.

though UCSD was one of the few schools that received positive scores in the controversial teacher prep ratings, UC/ACCORD Board Member and UCSD Ed Department Chair Amanda Datnow expressed skepticism.

A report rating 1,200 teacher preparation programs across the country gave only four California programs high marks. UC San Diego was among those standouts. But many are criticizing the report’s methods.

An estimated 1.7 million undergrads are eligible for federal financial aid, but fail to fill out FAFSA. Of them, 1.1 million are community college students. California has more than a quarter of the nation's CC student population, which is increasingly low-income and non-white.
