Tonight a very sweet young college student handed me a disposable camera so I could take their photo.

Him: "All you have to do is click it!"

Me: "Hon I've been around a lot longer than you so I think I know how these work" 😂

I think perhaps the main difference between Ritual and routine is the amount of mindfulness we place on each movement as part of the act.

Going to speech therapy is fascinating and educational in myriad ways.

"We hold a lot of tension in various places of our body – especially the voice and throat. Think about your daily rituals that alleviate stress and anxiety, like the actions around your daily coffee. It's probably pretty relaxing, right?"

It didn't use to be, I'll own that. I'd make an entire 32oz pourover and drink about half of it as soon as I could, just to get my brain in gear.

Now, I take my time, set up a single-serve press, and maybe drink half of it. It's become less about CAFFEINE NOW and more about the warmth of every cup; how it's ever-so-gently sweetened by my homemade syrup made from date & coconut palm sugars; the creamy texture given by a splash of oatmilk.

And if I don't have time for the Ritual, I don't have coffee that day.

Here's to big changes in the smallest ways.

Okay, I’ve definitely iced a cup, opened a beer, grabbed the liquor bottle… then poured the beer into the iced glass and stared at the bottle of vodka confused, but I’ve never shaken and then almost strained the drink into the trash. 😂
