"Love at first sight" is a great expression for a very real phenomenon. The French language decided to give it a powerful twist by literally calling it a "lightning strike", emphasizing the feeling of life-altering shock when you meet that special person for the very first time.

is back for a French cinéma workshop special: Rom-Coms & Dramas.
Romance, cinema and French go together like good food, wine and s*x. Why shouldn’t they? After all, French is widely considered to be the most romantic language in the world, perhaps due to its breathy, vowel-heavy sound palette, and cinema as a commercial endeavor was pioneered by the Lumière Brothers in Paris. More info and registration on our workshop page.

An extremely useful French verb, which comes from the Arabic term for smoking cannabis, but by extension now means to like, love or enjoy anything pleasant. You can declinate it whichever way you like: Je kiffe (I''m into it), j'te kiffe (I like you), c'est kiffant (it feels nice), ça me fait kiffer, c'est un gros kif, etc.

Every year, exactly forty days after Christmas, the French celebrate la Chandeleur. The tradition is known as “Candlemas” in English, but it’s no longer widely celebrated in the anglophone world. However, It’s still an extremely popular holiday in many Francophone countries and is important to know about — especially because it gives you a great excuse to eat delicious crêpes this year on February 2nd!
In our most recent blog post, you can learn all about the history of la Chandeleur, as well as French traditions, superstitions, and regional variations. If you need a recipe, check out our IGTV episode with Coucou teacher Sophie as she walks you through making crêpes from scratch! If you’re making crêpes today, tag us in your photos! 📸:
