This Sunday.
DANCE INDIA. Festival of Bharata Natyam
Sunday, Sept 27
Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center

Artist Spotlight: Rama Vaidyanathan
MAD & DIVINE

The voice of two female mystic poets - Janabai from Maharashtra and Lal Ded from Kashmir.

An insight into the life and teachings of the 13th Century Janabai and the 14th Century Lalded. Both were female mystic poets who went through tremendous hardships before
they were finally recognized for their spiritual awakenings. They crossed all barriers of social norms to fearlessly express their love for the supreme. Many real life incidents
have had a profound effect on their lives.

Janabai was a Vaishnavait while Lalded was a Shaivaite. Janabai believed in the form while Lalded believed in the formless. Janabai took the path of devotion while Lalded
took the path of ta**ra. They both appear to be different, but there is no denying that they were both Mad and Divine.

THIS SUNDAY!
DANCE INDIA · Festival of Bharata Natyam
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Rama Vaidyanathan ~ MAD & DIVINE
Sun, Sept 27 · Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center

What does devotion look like?

In MAD & DIVINE, acclaimed Bharata Natyam artist Rama Vaidyanathan, joined by live musicians, transforms into two extraordinary women mystics – Janabai of Maharashtra and Lal Ded of Kashmir illuminating two distinct paths to the divine~ Vaishnavism and Shaivism.

Through dance, poetry, music and theatrical storytelling, Rama journeys between their radically different worlds- and asks where madness ends and the divine begins.

DANCE INDIA · Festival of Bharata Natyam
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: RASIKA KUMAR . UNBOUND
Sun, Sept 27 · Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center

What if we expanded—bold, unapologetic—into our fullest selves? Rasika Kumar

UNBOUND draws inspiration from the Mahavidya goddesses – bold, tender, complex, each beautifully whole. Rasika explores what it means to inhabit that fullness in a world that can make us smaller, quieter, less visible. A powerful journey through the lived experience of Indian women, UNBOUND asks what it means to reclaim the fullness of who we are.

Trained from childhood under her mother, acclaimed artist Mythili Kumar, Rasika brings deep classical roots and a contemporary voice to UNBOUND, weaving rhythm, expressive gesture and storytelling with an original score by Sindhu Natarajan.
