Re: Ciclos an organization in Boyle Heights, East LA, repurposes unwanted bicycle parts to make new cargo bikes.
It started when their founder, Jimmy Henry Lizama, a new father and bicycle enthusiast noticed the high price tags of cargo bikes on the market and thought they looked like the front end of a BMX bike and rear end from a mountain bike married together. He decided to take used bicycle parts to do just that and Re:Ciclos was born.
We love that their internship program teaches students to see old parts as resources to build new items.
The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura started in Cateura Paraguay. This town centers around its local landfill which has become a source of materials to build the orchestra's instruments.
We love that this orchestra's unconventional instruments challenge some of the financial barriers that keep kids from participating in the arts while promoting and .

This is the story of a university student looking at something we all accept as trash and thinking differently.
Her town deals with piles of scallop shells so she thought of a way to repurpose them: toothbrushes. The one she’s developing is composed of over 50% scallop shell powder with natural antibacterial and deodorizing properties to boot.
Today we discuss the concept of a repair cafe.
There are regular ones right near us in Pasadena. However, you can also start one in your town if it doesn’t have one. The repair cafe website has guidance to help you along the way. Also, please give us a follow to keep up with sustainability stories, new books, music and events.
A major highlight of our tour was partnering with Mission Society of New York City to host a reading event at PS 192 in Harlem performed by Jewels Jaselle and Brigette Allen
