What does Independence Day even mean against the backdrop of mass incarcerations, racial segregation, mass unemployment, mass poverty and a Covid-19 pandemic that has disproportionately scarred the entire Black community.

It is our God given birthright to live a life of freedom and abundance. Itโ€™s time to break from financial mediocrity and build wealth. But first it starts with the mind. We live in a racist patriarchy so that affects the way we think about money.

White women got the right to inherit their own land only after enslaved people were freed. It wasnโ€™t until the 1960โ€™s that several states allowed women the right to open there own bank accounts. Even then they had to be married and make it a joint account. In 1974 is when women could finally have a line of credit on their own, and it goes on and on.

We have been conditioned to believe finances and wealth building is not our area of expertise but that stops now!

Just imagine the mind shifts it had to take black women. From being property of the state to now, being able to own property across multiple states.

We are already half way through the year, did you think 2020 would be like this?

I'm a planner so I had 2020 on lock, or so I thought.๐Ÿค”

Then COVID-19 happens.๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ

Quarantined. Unable to book flights, hang out socially, or even visit relatives and friends.๐Ÿ˜จ

Its tough. But hey there is hope.๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿค—

I've listed five practical and effective ways on how we can have a positive mindset despite this time.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Start your day with a grateful heart. Meditate and open your heart for gratefulness. Sit in stillness and quiet your mind for 15 min.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Reach out to love ones.
This is a perfect time to hug your kids, your partner, your parents if your able. Let them know how much you appreciate them being in your life, and stay connected virtually.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Walk away from distressful conversations and situations.
Stay away from situations that will only give you stress. Remember, those things are out of your control. But you can control how to react to those situations. Do what is best for you.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Never lose a smile.
It wouldn't cost you a penny. Smile often. It will uplift your mood. Smiling radiates positive energy. Those around you will see you smiling and most likely respond with a smile back, even if theyโ€™re under harsh circumstances..

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Exercise and get a hobby.
Keep moving! Exercising helps us boost our immune system, While having a hobby makes our mind pre-occupied. This is the best time to give ourselves a chance to open our creative side.

Weโ€™re all in this together, and the more we focus on community and lifting ourselves and others up, the healthier and connected weโ€™ll all feel.

With so much happening to the world right now, I know some of us are anxious about what will happen next. We stress ourselves with things that we can't control.

You might be asking me what are the things that I can and I can't control.

Lets make this simple.

The things that I can control, is myself. Whatever it is that is happening to my head right now, whatever I am thinking, I have control over it.

But whatever is happening to someone's head or reaction those are the things that I have no control.

It is so important that we know these things in order to have a healthy mind, and positive attitude.

You'll ask me again, "Kaleah, is it possible to have a positive attitude with all these crazy things?"

My answer. My answer, Yes, it is possible and it all starts from ourselves.

One of the most common thing to do?

Practice gratitude.

Gratitude increases our positive thinking, happiness, success, compassion to others. It releases a chemical in the brain called serotonin that allows us to be happy, focus, and calm.

Appreciate were you have come from and look how far you've come.

Take a time to stop and sit in energy of gratefulness.

We can't be constantly thinking about the next thing all the time. sometimes we just have to sit still and be grateful for where we are right now.

Sometimes we can't control the things that are happening to us. One day we have everything we ever wanted, then the next day its all been taken away. These moments forced us to start again, whether we are not prepared for it or not.

And its never easy to do that. We feel stuck, unable to function, to think, and to move. But it doesn't mean its our fault.

Sometimes life just throws a ball and all we have to do is catch it and run until you touched down to the home run.

Every single moment of your life is a new beginning. Cherish it and learn from it.
