Friends of Wilshire Crest School

We're almost a month into the new school year, so it's definitely time to ask: Have you joined our Wilshire Crest PTA yet? Dues are just $11 per person, per year, and membership funds help support the important work of PTA in supporting our Wilshire Crest students. Our PTA raises money for the wonderful school garden program, field trips, classroom supplies, library books and technology, and much, much more. We also host great community-building events, and we provide free services, too, such as managing the school's lost and found, hosting a weekly free book exchange (starting in October), and a free twice-a-year uniform exchange. Please join us!

Tomorrow - Friday, May 2 - is the last day! Open until 3:30 pm!

Cinco de Mayo's just around the corner, and once again, Three Borders Brunch and Grill - just across Sycamore Ave. from Wilshire Crest - will be serving up great food and donating a portion of each purchase to our PTA to help fund field trips for our Wilshire Crest students. All food purchases qualify, whether dine-in or take out, from 10:30 am to 6:15 pm this Friday, May 2. So easy peasy to grab lunch or dinner on your way home on Friday! (And tell your friends and neighbors too - all puchases count toward the fundraiser, not just those from school families!)

Starting at our Spring Open House/Science Fair on Thursday (tomorrow) night, the PTA will launch two great events that go great together - our spring T-Shirt sale, and our spring Uniform Exchange. Our short-sleeve tiger T-shirts are available for $15 each or 2 for $25...and all of the gently used uniform pieces are FREE. Be sure to visit our table to check them out!

Also, from Monday, May 5-Tuesday, May 13, both the T-shirt sale and the Uniform Exchange will continue each morning at drop off time - Mondays and Tuesdays at the Sycamore gate, and Wednesdays-Fridays in the Olympic parking lot. At that point, we'll take a week long break, and then sales will resume from Thursday, May 22-Friday, May 30.

Finally, if you'd like to donate gently used uniform pieces your student has outgrown, please bring them to the school office, or to the T-Shirt/uniform table any time during these events!

Just two days left for our Scholastic Book Fair! Last day is Friday. Have you visited yet? If not, please do soon (we'll be open until 6 pm on Thursday, during our Open House and Science Fair event)...and please also consider donating a book to your child's classroom - most of our teachers have wish lists and we can help you find the books they'd like to receive!

If you're going to be out and about this weekend, you might want to check out the Melrose Trading Post flea market on Sunday, from 10 am to 4 pm on the grounds of Fairfax High School - our Wilshire Crest PTA will have a booth just inside the main gate of the market, off Fairfax Ave., selling small potted plants and bottled water to raise funds for the school. We'd love to see you there!

Reminder: our PTA winter movie night is coming on Friday, Feb. 28! Please join us for a screening of The Wild Robot. Tickets are $5 per person (kids age 3 and under are free), and Hot Dog on a Stick will be there with goodies for sale. Also, as always, PTA will provide free hot chocolate and tea. Doors open at 4:30 pm, and the movie starts at 5. See the flyer below for more details!

Two important mid-week reminders:

1. Tomorrow, Thursday, January 30, from 4:30-7:30 pm, we'll be holding our annual Wilshire Crest PTA fundraiser at the Shakey's Pizza at Olympic & San Vicente. Bring the whole family to enjoy pizza, hanging out with Wilshire Crest friends, and earning money for our end-of-year culminations and related events. Both dine-in and takeout orders count toward the fundraiser (just tell the person who takes your order that you're with Wilshire Crest, and make sure they put your receipt in the fundraiser box by the cash register). All regular food orders will be counted toward our total, though beer and any sale items will not.

2. Tomorrow (Thursday, January 30) is also the last day to order special See's Candies Valentine-themed items from our online storefront at https://bit.ly/WilshireCrestSeesCandyVD All orders ship to the address of your choice, anywhere in the country, so you can treat your distant family members and earn money for new murals at Wilshire Crest at the same time. Definitely a sweet deal for all your Valentine's Day sweethearts!

1. Mañana, jueves 30 de enero, de 4:30 a 7:30 p. m., realizaremos nuestra recaudación de fondos anual de PTA de Wilshire Crest en Shakey's Pizza en Olympic y San Vicente. Traiga a toda la familia para disfrutar de una pizza, pasar tiempo con amigos de Wilshire Crest y ganar dinero para nuestras celebraciones de fin de año y eventos relacionados. 1. Monday, Jan. 27 is the last day to order your Wilshire Crest tiger crew-neck sweatshirts, hoodie sweatshirts, and long-sleeve Ts with NO SHIPPING CHARGES. Go to SpiritHero.com and search for Wilshire Crest - or scan the QR code on the attached flyer to order.

TOMORROW NIGHT! On Wednesday, September 11, we'll be holding our first restaurant fundraiser of the year - at Chicas Tacos (inside All Season Brewing Company at 800 S La Brea). Bring the family (or order online) between 3 and 7 pm, and 25% of your order will be returned to our Wilshire Crest PTA to help fund field trips for our students. Also, please note that 1) parking is extremely limited near the restaurant, but our Wilshire Crest parking lots, just two blocks away, will be open for your convenience until 7 pm...2) note that NO CODE is needed for online orders - the restaurant will simply donate 25% of all purchases during the fundraiser hours...and 3) there will also be FREE Skee Ball tickets for all students who attend!
