Kaleb wasn’t ready for Coach .

Nobody is.

When the award-winning pulled up to the table, Coach KP did what he always does—sat down, laid out the bones, and started teaching.

lesson? The pass.
(Kaleb had questions. Coach KP had all the answers.)

This is Spades Academy energy.

Patient. Warm.
A little bit of trash talk.
And absolutely nobody leaving the table without learning something.

We didn’t write this.

Courtney Allegra Taylor— a Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management graduate student—said this about Love, Peace & Spades on ’s Porch Play Chat.

Our recipes.
Our cultural traditions.
Our games.
Our ways of gathering.

That’s what 🖤✌🏽♠️ is built around.
And that’s what Spades Academy: The Strategic Play Lab is designed to protect—by teaching anyone, anywhere, how to play, learn, and carry the culture forward.

This was taken at our very first Talk + Play at —an evening that explored the history of the Bid Whist, and the culture it carries.

The woman holding those cards is .

Bid Whist coach.
Cultural steward.
One of the most thoughtful teachers at our table.

When you learn from someone who knows where the game came from—who understands the history, the tradition, the weight of what’s being passed down—you don’t just leave knowing how to play.

You leave carrying something.

That’s what Yazmin brings to Spades Academy by 🖤✌🏽♠️.

The game has a story. She’ll teach you both.

Is saying considered trash talk or talking across the table to your partner?

Because when Anessa does it, the reaction hits differently than when others do it.

The table gets louder.

And suddenly everyone is debating what card was thrown down!
Is trash talk a skill… or something you’re born fluent in?

Because when plays, the cards move different.

The table gets louder.

And suddenly everyone’s questioning their strategy. ♠️

February, we’re setting the table again.

As always, we invite you to pull up and find out what kind of player you really are.

Everybody’s talking about learning Spades.
We’ve been building that table for 4 years.

There’s something special about being taught with care.
Not just Spades—Bid Whist, Tunk, Dominoes—being shared in the kind of space that teaches patience and community.

by 🖤✌🏽♠️ at .48th is a place where you can pull up, not know a thing, and still belong.
Just community. Just culture.

We do it every third Wednesday at Our House.

Come learn. Come play. Come be part of the culture.

Some of y’all stopped playing Spades because someone at the table made you feel stupid for trying. And took your Black card while they were at it.

Wrong card. Wrong move. And somebody made sure you never forgot it.

played the wrong card at .48th.

The whole table watched.

Coach gave him his card back.
No cussing. No revoked Black card. Just — try again.

That’s Spades Academy. ♠️
