She ask me questions that I don’t remember the answer to🤦🏽‍♀️😂… Grateful that she’s a reader so she can look in a book.

Two and knows about 70 words by sight!😎🌊🖤🤗 She learns them almost automatically🤓. To assist her when she becomes a writer, spelling the words are also important. When we work together learning new words we spell them, use magnetic letters and scramble the word and then have her spell them right, have her build the words with letter blocks, and have her figure out the missing letter(s) in words.

Look at this early reader reading!! Reading at 2🤗😍🙌🏽
------------------------------------
We've been working on concepts of print. She's able to read from left to right, recognize her sight words in sentences, and use the picture to help her read unknown words. She is working on not adding words that are not on the page (pointing helps with one to one word to print matching), and getting her mouth ready by saying the beginning sound of unknown words.

For the very young and the very mature... Continue the process. Learning is a life long journey.

Why is phonics so important? Over 80% of the words in the English language can be decoded/sounded out using phonics. So a strong phonics background really helps young readers successfully decode unknown words. Now the fun begins..... phonological awarness, which is the ability to hear and understand how sounds work together to make words. We'll be posting games and activities that we use to build phonological awareness.

It's so fun to watch children have independent imaginative play. A lot of the time it helps us to see what they are taking in from the world around them. Here Ocean is compassionately consoling her baby and reminding her to take deep breaths in order to calm down. Guess where she got that from?? -------------------------
When children are upset, if they are able and willing to take deep breaths, it tends to be an excellent way to get them to honor their emotions while calming themselves.

Sight words are a great addition to your early literacy skills. I am a big believer in a strong phonics foundation, as over 80% of words in the English language can be pronounced phonetically. However, there are lots of high-frequency words (words used frequently) that do not follow phonics rules like the, do, to, etc. Have early readers, spell the words, and work with them in different ways to increase their automaticity when they see the word.(stay tune for later post). Here is my 22 month old with her first set of sight words, which includes her name.
