Organized by the UCLA Richard Hovannisian Endowed Chair in Modern Armenian History, “Microhistories of Armenian Early Modernity, a UCLA Workshop on Diaspora, Print Culture, Confession Building, and Governmentality (c. 1512/1598–1789)” brings together scholars to examine how individual lives, choices, and contingencies intersect with broader structural changes, offering new insights into Armenian participation in early modern history.

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the Consul General of Armenia in Los Angeles, Anna Avetisyan, and Third Secretary, Mariam Khachyan, visited UCLA for a meeting with the UCLA Promise Armenian Institute (PAI) faculty and affiliated scholars.
 
During this meeting, the Consul General received an overview of the Promise Armenian Institute from PAI Director, Prof. Ann Karagozian, and of the Armenian Genocide Research Program from Director, Dr. Taner Akcam. She learned about the UCLA Armenian Music Program and the work of Prof. Melissa Bilal; about Operation Armenia and the healthcare-related work of Drs. Shant Shekherdimian and Alina Dorian in Armenia; about the Armenian Archaeology Lab headed by Dr. Kristine Martirosyan – Olshansky; about Prof. Artur Davoyan’s scientific research with the Armenian National Academy of Sciences; and about Prof. Victor Agadjanian’s research relevant to Armenia and the South Caucasus.
In addition, the Consul General met with Prof. Cindy Fan, Vice Provost for International Studies and Global Engagement, and Ms. Gohar Grigoryan, the Program Officer for the International Visitors Bureau.
