The PAI is designed to be a hub for world-class research and teaching in Armenian Studies and for coordinating Interdisciplinary Research and Public Impact Programs across UCLA, with the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora. The Promise Armenian Institute (PAI) was established in late 2019, through the vision of Dr. Eric Esrailian and made possible by a $20 million gift from the estate of Kirk Kerkorian, the well-known Armenian-American businessman, investor, and philanthropist. The Promise Armenian Institute’s size, scope, and interdisciplinary approach make it the first of its kind in the world, and UCLA is ideally positioned to make these important contributions. Karagozian, Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCLA, was named Inaugural Director of the PAI in early 2020. Professor Sebouh Aslanian of the UCLA Department of History has been named inaugural director of the newly established Armenian Studies Center within the Promise Armenian Institute.

Join us on Thursday, September 24 at 5:30 pm Pacific at the The Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA School of Law for a special in-person presentation by human rights attorney Ms. Siranush Sahakyan, President of the International and Comparative Law Center, Yerevan, Armenia, who will examine the criminal trials of Armenians in Baku in the wake of the 2023 war in Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh.

This event is co-sponsored by the UCLA Promise Armenian Institute in addition to the Armenian Bar Association, the Armenian Legal Center for Justice and Human Rights, UCLA Law's Armenian Law Students Association, and the ANCA Western Region.

Congratulations to Anahit Malumyan, a pre-med and public health student at UCLA FSPH, for her senior capstone project on food insecurity among adolescents displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. Presented for the first time this year, Anahit received an Outstanding Capstone Project Award, recognizing her project for excelling in the depth of inquiry, quality of ex*****on, and contribution to public health practice. During her project, she collaborated closely with the Poppy Project at UCLA FSPH and partners at AUA CHS. We are proud of her work and advocacy for the Artsakh community!
