My Praying Mantis and Me — Susan Kay Wyatt
My experience with the stay at home during Covid in Southern California involves lots of outside time in my flower gardens. We don't have a sprawling estate, but a postage stamp property secluded in a hedge. I'm either planting something, watering, trimming, deadheading or just taking a break to wa

Feeling the weight of a different kind of thanksgiving this year.
Paradise Found — Susan Kay Wyatt
The Calm Before the Storm. It's the day before Thanksgiving before my kitchen bursts into a busy flurry of the best of times. Family recipes, cooking together, and laughing with people I love reminiscing about the craziest things. Lots of laughter. And wine. It will be different this year.

It's been a crazy year and I stopped being creative. Lots to deal with including anxiety, depression and panic attacks. And so, for my Covid birthday, I decided to block it all out and tap into my old self. I hope you enjoy this brief distraction as much as I did in creating it.
And, I'm curious. What is something that you smell that takes you to another place in time? I am ruled by my olfactory. (Can't believe I could spell that without spell check)
Enjoy!
Boys, Birthdays and Buffalo Wings — Susan Kay Wyatt
(And a lot of digressing) Have you ever smelled something that triggered a flood of memories? As a person who is ruled by my sense of smell, it happens to me a lot. This time it was opening a bottle of Franks RedHot Buffalo Wing sauce. (Cue the woo woo time travel music and special effects) It wa

Even though I'm focusing on my music right now, the writer in me gets to play too. I promised myself to write my experiences "in real time." That means emotions are fresh and raw, and often come pouring out on the airplane ride back home. Here is a love letter I wrote on my way back from Portland where I got immersed in the jazz scene and worked on my project with a beloved friend.
Dear Portland — Susan Kay Wyatt
Oh, Portland. The eloquence of your casual style and organic nature has me blushing with all the feels of a first crush. I came for the music. You gave me cuisine, art, architecture, community and perspective, babies, dog walkers, the first flowers of spring, and people watching.

For those of you who have been following the journey of the dog and pony show that is Elizabeth and me, I give you the adventure of her successful driving test. I raised that queen and now she's off on her own adventures, in her own car.
Boots and Cats and Ballroom Blitz — Susan Kay Wyatt
Motivation Monday was interrupted by Elizabeth's third attempt at the behind the wheel driver's test at the DMV. This rite of passage has been the bane of our existence, and the last shoe to drop on her launch into independence. She is a college freshman, and I'm still taking her to school when her

It's shaping up to be a magical and prosperous year in more ways than one. Be sure to have your umbrella upside down.
Pennies From Heaven — Susan Kay Wyatt
My biggest dream since I was a little girl listening to my clock radio every day was to be a professional singer. I remember thinking that the songs I heard on that radio were actually the singers live at the radio station. An even younger me thought there were tiny humans on a stage inside that box

It's a new year and time to have that conversation in the mirror with the person who knows you best and loves you most.
Mirror, Mirror — Susan Kay Wyatt
So, I had just blown up my life and was madly in love. I was numb, confused, and terrified of the challenges ahead while feeling the high of a true love I still have to this day. I found myself looking in the vanity mirror in that tiny bland apartment bathroom. I was washing my face. What happened s

Do you love the smell of rain? I do. Recently it triggered me to dig up a piece I wrote a while back about a time that was pivotal in my life. It makes me smile, feel grateful and loved.
https://www.susankaywyattauthor.com/blog/myloveaffairwithrain I hope it helps you remember moments in your life, and people to be grateful for.
My Love Affair With Rain — Susan Kay Wyatt
Rain. In our everyday mundane lives, it is a nuisance. It usually happens the day after we wash our cars. It ruins our hair and our favorite pair of shoes. It makes things muddy and mucky. And in Los Angeles, people pray for it but can't drive in it. I attended The Ohio State University. On
