WestEdge Design Fair (WestEdge Design Fair) is searching for six emerging interior designers with fewer than three years of experience to transform a blank 10’ × 10’ space into a bold design statement!

Guided by industry leader Julee Ireland (Julee Ireland) each competitor will push their creativity, solve real-world design challenges, and bring their vision to life on a public stage all unveiled live before the West Coast’s most influential design community!

To be eligible the applicants must have been practicing interior design for less than three years and be applying under their own name (even if they may currently work for another design firm)! ✨

Retired Program Director and Los Angeles based Architect Jeffrey Daniels was interviewed by KCRW on how he collaborated with David Hockney to turn Hockney’s California ranch house into a reflection of his vision.

David Hockney is known for his colorful paintings of Los Angeles swimming pools and canyon roads, and many of those works were made at the home studio in the Hollywood Hills where Hockney resided on and off from the late ‘70s until his recent death.

“He actually showed me some of the paintings that he was working on at the time, and he wanted to capture that in the architecture,” Daniels recalls.

The artist rejected the suggestion of a boxy building with minimalist white walls, says Daniels: “He took a look at this first proposal, and he said, ‘This is great, but do you think we could have a few more mad angles?’”

Sustainable Surfaces for Dental Office + LEED Certified Building Site Visit – The project proposes a sustainable, hospitality-driven interior finish concept for a boutique dental office located along the shoreline. The design responds to a central healthcare challenge: dental anxiety. Rather than treating the office as a sterile clinical environment, the concept, “Debonair at Ease,” reimagines the dental suite as a refined coastal retreat where materiality, atmosphere, and performance work together to calm patients and support staff.

Project Concept: Thread of Connection explores how architecture can cultivate relationships across space, generations, and heritage. A primary social void connects occupants through internal balconies, transparent boundaries, and flexible partitions, creating visual continuity between floors while balancing interaction and privacy. A secondary void improves daylight pe*******on and natural ventilation deep into the brownstone. Beyond fostering connections within the home, the project extends this idea across generations through the integration of repurposed furnishings, textiles, and artifacts from the family’s ancestral home in India, linking cultural memory with contemporary living. Sustainability is approached through adaptive reuse aid long-term material stewardship.

Architecture Studio II is the Capstone course in the Foundation Level Certificate program. In this final course Foundation Level students design a realistic residence with full code compliance using the process of linking rooms and spaces by architectural promenades.
