For February’s Third Thursday local artist and puppeteer Destiny Grayson visited SPARK! They led thoughtful art workshops honoring Black History Month. Our oldest kiddos created their own 4 panel comics inspired by the work of George Harriman, and our younger rooms made self portrait puppets, and abstract art inspired by the works of Megan Piphus Peace, and Stanley Whitney respectively. Thank you Destiny for lending us your talents! Our friends had such a wonderful time. 🌟

Our Forest Room friends are learning about dinosaurs! They especially love learning about the La Brea Tar Pits and how fossils are formed. Their amazing teacher set up this creative play area for them to explore with their new knowledge! 🦖🦕

Our Honey Room 🍯 is learning about community helpers this month, and what better way to celebrate than invite our librarian over to lead story time! We are so grateful for our larger LA community resources that inspire us to come together for our kids. Thank you Librarian Diane! 💚🩵

For January’s Third Thursday, Suzanne Lang the author of Grumpy Monkey visited SPARK and read Play All Day! Jim Panzee also made an appearance😉 These special days give our SPARK kiddos a chance to engage with artists like Suzanne. Thank you Suzanne and Jim for such a magical afternoon!✨💛

Happy New Year! Starting 2026 off right with Letter of the Week! Each week our friends dive into a new letter through play based learning that builds routine and confidence. From story time and hands-on crafts that strengthen fine motor skills, to games that boost letter recognition and connect letters to sounds, we’re creating a fun, structured, and predictable way to explore early literacy. One letter at a time, big learning happens! The first letter of the week for 2026: F! 🐠 🐸 🌸

We’re so grateful! 🍁 We had an amazing Friendsgiving filled with delicious food, wonderful families, and community bonding! 🦃 Thank you all for another beautiful event!

For this months Third Thursday our friends from Fountain Community Garden came to SPARK and led us in an amazing garden sensory activity! 🪴☀️ Our friends explored in soil with natural materials found around Los Angeles, and even found worms! 🪱 Our older kids also got to make their very own clay prints of different plant cuttings. It was so amazing to watch these kiddos learn about our natural world and treat all of the special materials so well!

SPARK’s annual Halloween Festival was a huge success! 🎃 Thank you to our amazing parents for celebrating such a fun day with us! We loved seeing all our SPARK kiddos dressed up for the games and magic! ✨🌞

Our SPARK friends chased down the sun for this month’s Third Thursday workshop!

Our friends created cyanotype art pieces using flowers, leaves, and most importantly-the sun! ☀️

After 5 minutes of letting their collages bake in sunshine, they washed their pieces and watched the magic unfold! Their designs developed in water and left behind beautiful silhouettes 🪻
