2nd Coffee with the Principal! Reviewing A-G graduation requirements!

I had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to complete instructional rounds on a middle school campus. It was important to look at their theory of action and problem of practice before observing classrooms. This was such an eye opener for me as an instructional leader.

Graduated my 1st but not last…graduating class…ECA Class of 3023! I have waited to lead and lead with a purpose! I hope the lives of the students I connected with have impacted them in a positive way! This job is not for the “faint at heart”. My enrollment is less than most but I’m sure my positive impact is more! Thanks to my babies for affording me the opportunity to grow stronger as a leader, develop more patience and learn to listen! Thank you ECA Class of 2023!

Relationships matter...

Teachers we are still in the beginning of the school year. Please take this time to develop relationships with your students. Educators have the unique power to impact the lives of their learners. Not all students want to learn from all teachers because the teachers may not make them feel welcomes. It is imperative that teachers build relationships with their students to ensure they feel respected, valued, and seen for who they are. Building those relationships helps them build community within the classroom and with each other, which is extremely important.

GOAL Educational staff has a collective of 60 years in education within 5 states. We have shared many of our experiences but when we started to read this book, we found that we share one of the best experiences in urban education. As we are reading one of Dr. Chris Emdin's book "For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood...and the Rest of Y'All Too" for our professional growth, we shared our experience of teachers who taught us "pentecostal pedagogy" (if you are unfamiliar, youtube pentecostal church service). The discussion went deeper as we stated that as educators we need to get "Back to the Basics".

Dr. Chris Emdin shares in his book the Powerful Elements of Pentecostal Service as it relates to pedagogy:

1. Call and response
2. The use of music in the classroom
3. Allowing students the opportunity to sit where they want
4. Ability to guide and not control
5. Engaging in dialogue
6. Creating the best content (to meet the needs of the learners)

This book is such a powerful tool to help ALL educators!
