🌌 LIGHT FROM STARS IS TIME TRAVEL
When you look at the night sky, you're not seeing the universe as it is right now—you're seeing it as it was when that light began its journey toward Earth. ✨
Light travels incredibly fast—about 300,000 km per second—but the distances between stars and galaxies are so enormous that even light can take years, thousands of years, or billions of years to reach us.
For example, when you see a star 100 light-years away, you're seeing light that left that star roughly 100 years ago.
And when powerful telescopes observe extremely distant galaxies, they can see them as they existed billions of years in the past.
So astronomy is, in a very real sense, a way of looking into cosmic history. 🔭
The farther we look into space, the farther back in time we see.
🌠 The night sky isn't just a view of space—it’s a window into the past.
