An extraordinary outcome has been achieved! The finals of the “6th World Kikisake Contest” took place yesterday, culminating in the selection of the top contenders among the 60,000 Sake and Shochu Kikizake-shi participants. 🫡
In addition to the grand winner, our representative Samuel was honored with the outstanding award in the Food and Beverage Service category! 🎊
282 total individuals from across the globe participated in this prestigious competition. Following a thorough evaluation process, 22 semi-finalists were chosen, comprising of 14 contestants from the food and beverage service category and 8 contestants from the retail service category.
It was a long journey, with six finalists (3 in each category) advancing to the final after a much rigorous semi-final selection. Notably, the food and beverage service category was reduced to three finalists from a pool of fourteen. Samuel was honored with the Outstanding Award in this category, marking a significant accomplishment in his career. His performance was exceptional, and it was reported that he was in fierce competition with the overall winner. We take great pride in your achievements, Samuel! Last but not least, Lora also competed exceptionally and fought hard throughout the competition! Providing a wonderful, elegant performance in hospitality service. As always, Sake School of America remains committed on delivering high-quality education, nurturing its students to become outstanding sake specialists. 🎓

The world-renowned kikisake shi competition has kicked off in Japan! ⏳
It’s an exhilarating three-day event where 22 of the best sake sommeliers out of 70,000 sake sommeliers from around the globe have come together to showcase their expertise! On the first day, they had the incredible opportunity to visit Izumibashi brewery and learn from Mr. Izumibashi directly. Among them, American representatives Samuel and Lora are already appreciating the brilliance of Izumibashi’s offerings. 🍶
After an insightful seminar and tasting session, they participated a pairing event. However, they can’t let their guard down just yet—as this pairing could have a major impact on tomorrow’s semi-finals. Thankfully, the delightful combination of food and drinks helped ease their nerves and prepare them for the big stage ahead. 🫡
We are very confident that Samuel and Lora will perform amazingly as tomorrow promises to be thrilling, where six competitors move on to the finals! 💪

One of our instructors, Atsuko, visited Higa Shuzo in Okinawa 🌺🏝️Higa Shuzo is located in a place where you can enjoy a stunning view of the beautiful beach. The ocean breeze is an essential for the refreshing awamori produced by Higa Shuzo.
The founder was originally a teacher, but after losing everything following the war, he witnessed many people drinking low-quality alcohol, which led him to start making awamori as a way to recover.
Higa Shuzo is known for its refreshing and light awamori, but they also take environmental issues seriously. They use methane gas generated from rice washing water as natural gas in the process of making awamori.
Atsuko had the chance to taste the awamori during fermentation. She said It was delicious, with a refreshing acidity characteristic of Higa Shuzo!

One of our instructors, Atsuko, visited Yamakawa Shuzo located in Okinawa known for its aged liquor. 🏝️🌺 Surrounded by banana trees and lush greenery, Yamakawa Shuzo has nearly 80 years of history. The room where the aged liquor is slowly crafted over many years is covered in black koji. It’s a space where you can almost hear the subtle breaths of the awamori in the many jars lined up, as they slowly mature. The aged liquor born here allows you to enjoy the changing flavors over time. Thank you, President Yamakawa, for a wonderful tour and great tasting session! 🙏
