During Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, we wanted to highlight a book written by a Korean-American author. Carol Park wrote “Memoir of a Cashier” and she shares her experiences of working in her parent’s gas station in Compton, Ca., while intricately weaving in the history of the Black American and Korean American conflict. She recounts the racism and traumatic incidents she lived through, recalls her experiences of Los Angeles during the 1992 riots, and shares her journey of finding her identity.
Please read her book (100% of proceeds from every purchase goes to the Young Oak Kim Center to buy and donate books to K-12 schools and other nonprofits) and join us live on May 17 @ 2:00 pm (PST) as Carol will answer questions from those streaming in here on Facebook or on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com//streams
