EnrichLA: An edible garden in every Los Angeles school!

We believe that all children and young adults, regardless of economic status, have the right to first class public education in a healthy and inspiring environment. To that effect, our purpose is to assist public schools to enrich the learning experience (increase the amount of green spaces on campus) by building edible gardens and other green spaces for the benefit of all students and the surrounding community, and by staffing them and endowing related programs.

🌱 Creating, learning, and growing! Students at Alma Fuerte Elementary made colorful plant markers to help identify the fruits and vegetables growing in our garden. By labeling their favorite crops, they’re building connections to the plants they care for while making the garden more beautiful and welcoming for everyone. 🍅🥕🍓

Last salad of the school year = best salad of the school year 🥗☀️
Fresh-picked by the amazing 6th & 7th graders at Logan Academy — loaded with crunchy veggies, bright flavors, and all the hard work they planted, watered, and cared for this season.

Nothing tastes better than food grown with your own hands. 🌱💚

Our 5th grade gardeners at Alma Fuerte Public School were completely entranced by the seed packets from Botanical Interests 🌱✨

From planting depth to days to germination, students discovered that seed packets are more than just pretty pictures — they’re guides to growing successfully. Watching kids slow down, read closely, and get excited about what they’re planting is one of the best parts of garden education. 🌼🥕🌿

Have you ever made a zine with your students? ✂️📚 Students at Woodland Hills Academy Middle School created handmade booklets filled with art, reflections, ideas, and creativity. A perfect final project that gives students a chance to look back on what they’ve learned and leave with something meaningful they made themselves. 🌿

Ranger Shannon guided students through the magic of plant pigments by extracting natural colors from green, purple, yellow, and orange fruits and vegetables! From crushing and mixing to painting and experimenting, students explored how plants create the vibrant colors we see in nature — and turned them into art. 🍇🥕🫐🌽

Just when we thought the lesson was about plants… a tiny garden visitor changed everything. 🐛🌱

One of the best parts of garden education is watching curiosity turn into compassion. Instead of fear, students chose gentleness. Instead of ignoring a small creature, they stopped, observed, asked questions, and cared.

Gardens don’t just grow food — they grow empathy, respect for living things, and a deeper connection to the world around us. 💚

At Woodworth-Monroe, students harvested crisp radishes straight from the garden—then kept it simple: sliced, a squeeze of lemon, and a pinch of salt.

Zesty, crunchy, and grown with their own hands… safe to say these garden snacks were a hit🌱💚

Students at Park Western Elementary learned all about the parts of a flower then used the pollen to pretend to fertilize the female part of the flower—the pistil—just like pollinators do in nature. 🌺 🐝
