August is Sickle Cell Trait Prevention Month in my City the last 10 years.

16 years ago I took on the identity as an Advocate for Sickle Cell Trait.

10 years ago I went to the Mayor about a Proclamation.

7 years ago my Dad transitioned and I have been in Loss, Mourning and Grieving.

I lost part of my identity as son with no earthly father anymore.

I had to rediscover who I am now.. today.

Finally at peace with Grief I’ve been able to feed my spirit with the Word of God and realized I was poor in spirit.

We felt that we needed a PSA that would grant the attention of people.. from there I continued with Stop Sickle S*x:
Stop = Awareness
Sickle = Education
S*x = Prevention

Let’s just say it’s still too much for some..

That was May 2011.

We left at 5a and did a turn around trip that evening because I had Map Night Landmark Education in Century City at 7p. The Self Expression Leadership Program I was in.

We were actually working on getting a radio show out there on the weekends and I was ready to travel once a week to Vegas to do our Sickle Cell show that was

We needed a sponsor to cover air time.

The PSA was created at Power 88 in Las Vegas. Marlon Djthump Rice helped us out back in 2011.

Kryshon represented Las Vegas back when I met her on twitter. Voices Of Sickle Cell

DreamSickle Kids Foundation ™️ is doing great work out in Vegas.

Once I saw Military and Athletics were impacted by sickle cell trait and sudden deaths with Rhabdomyolysis.. I found my radio voice..

Since then I went from BlogTalk radio to ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀LA Talk Live!🎤 to LA Talk Radio to Morris Media Studios to KCAA NBC Radio to Jessica Dugas to MBR Talk over the last 16yrs.
The Academy of Radio & TV Graduated there for knowledge in Radio and TV Broadcasting.

Internet radio was my personal therapy that became a hobby and now a platform to express myself and allow others to share their thoughts and stories and feelings and emotions as I did to stay alive.

Sickle Cell Trait?

Ask for the Hemoglobin Electrophoresis Blood Test and a Complete Blood Count.

Back in the day the campaign was simple.

Get Tested for Sickle Cell Trait.

Then we dropped Stop Sickle S*x and people lost their minds..

But the condom on the banana or for a virus was cool to use..

But when I dropped one on a sickled cell.. it’s distasteful and makes people feel like they shouldn’t have been born..

Clearly they never heard my talks..

Then the term prevention was a derogatory word because people felt like you can’t prevent sickle cell..

Clearly it’s about giving people information to make an informed decision or choice not after the fact.

I started in late 2009 and I’ve seen the needle moving and Organizations that only focused on SCD have taken on the S Trait talks.. Even Testing.

Funny I met the company that created one of the testing kits that’s being used overseas and used in US but only in a particular setting.

2016-2017-2018-2019 MediLAB and Risk Factors for S Trait were offering testing around Southern California at various locations when no one was doing in mobile.

We know what’s possible and we are still at it.

August is Sickle Cell Trait Prevention Month in my City.

Grief: Loss, Mourning and Grieving are all real…. I wanted to highlight a few people.

I had an opportunity to meet KiKi Shepard at the 38th Annual Conference in Maryland.

She spoke about her S Trait status and Hosted Celebrity Bowling Events to bring awareness and allowed us to be Ambassadors with her at these events to speak with celebrities about our experiences.

Voices Of Sickle Cell and I met on Twitter talking about Sickle Cell SC Disease and Sickle Cell Trait.

As I continue to Advocate it’s something to be about this work and not forget where it all started for me..

These two women are no longer here and I have great memories of their encouragement.
