We are calling on state lawmakers to include full funding for office hours for part-time faculty in the 2026-27 State Budget. Last year, legislators heard our call and included full funding for these crucial student services – this year, we are again calling on the Legislature to fully fund these office hours.
Legislators need to hear from us why this matters. Click here to send a letter to the members of the State Budget Committee and let’s raise our voices together for the funding our colleges need and the services our students deserve.

Wendy Brill-Wynkoop
Faculty leader dedicated to advocating for the California Community Colleges.
When my husband Curtis and his LAUSD colleagues went on strike, we marched together because the fight for public education is universal.
Whether you are a full-time K-12 teacher facing California’s unprecedented affordability crisis, or a contingent community college faculty member fighting for a living wage and job security, our struggle is the exact same. Educator working conditions are student learning conditions.
We cannot wait for politicians or administrators to hand us equity. We have to organize at the grassroots level and demand it together. As your District Q Director, I will bring this proven, on-the-ground organizing experience to our statewide fight.
Let’s build our union power and win the competitive living wages every educator deserves. United in purpose, stronger together! ✊🍎

I received a phone call last night from a colleague who deeply moved me. They called to say "thank you" for my help with the recent Academic Renewal reform. But the truth is that gratitude belongs to all of us.
A while back, our faculty identified a massive barrier to student success: the wildly inconsistent Academic Renewal policies across our districts were unfairly punishing students for past academic struggles. Dedicated faculty saw the inequity on the ground, but knowing how to actually trigger a statewide change felt daunting.
That’s where the power of our collective voice comes in. Through FACCC, we helped our members take action. We didn't just identify the barrier; we partnered with system leaders, such as the Chancellor’s Office, and took action to be the change agents our students needed.
Because of that teamwork, the Board of Governors officially approved the Title 5 revisions yesterday!
This historic change will have a profound impact, particularly on our first-generation and marginalized students, who often juggle immense life challenges alongside their education. By providing a fair, uniform process to address past substandard grades, we help students rebuild their GPAs. This renewed academic standing opens doors that were previously slammed shut, restoring financial aid eligibility and making them competitive for transfer to elite, highly valued universities.
This victory is so much bigger than any one person. That phone call last night was a beautiful reminder that when we organize and support each other, we have the power to dismantle systemic inequities. Every single one of us has the capacity to be a change agent. Let's keep fighting for our students! ✊📚✨

Another successful transfer from the to . Of all the thousands this year, she’s my favorite - Congratulations, .wynkoop, on earning your baccalaureate degree in graphic design. ❤️
Educators need leaders who do more than just talk about change; we need leaders who actually help pass legislation and win the campaigns.
With over 30 years of experience, I am ready to fight for manageable class sizes, living wages, and an end to the unfair two-tier faculty system in the community colleges. Whether we teach K-12 or higher education, we are fighting the exact same fight to defend our public schools.
Vote Wendy Brill-Wynkoop for CTA Board of Directors, District Q!

Thank you to everyone who attended today’s 2026 SEM Final Convening! My keynote focused on the incoming federal accountability regulations and the new expectations around program ROI. To successfully navigate these major policy shifts, leaning into Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) is absolutely essential.
Having been so fortunate to serve on the SEM core team for the past 6 years, I know firsthand that our community colleges have the collaboration and resilience needed to meet this moment.

Higher education is facing a profound shift. The new federal AHEAD and AIM regulations will soon judge our academic programs strictly by workforce-aligned return on investment (ROI)—directly threatening job security, academic freedom, and the programs that serve our communities' most vulnerable populations. I’ve outlined exactly what these regulations do, how they will disrupt accreditation, and where faculty should push back during the open public comment period. Check out the full blog post here:
Proposed AHEAD regulations and upcoming AIM accreditation rules will reshape higher education, using earnings-based ROI metrics that put essential programs at risk and shift how accreditation works.
What’s at stake: access, academic freedom, and opportunity for our students.

Stronger Boards = Stronger Contracts! ✊
As my local union President and PAC Chair, I knew we couldn’t just accept the status quo. We organized a “Flip the Board” campaign to elect labor-friendly trustees and we won!
By mobilizing our members, we transformed our working conditions. We secured significant salary increases, achieved lecture-lab parity, and compressed our salary schedule so educators reach their highest earning potential sooner.
This fight extends far beyond higher education. Whether we are organizing for manageable K-12 class sizes, lower counselor caseloads, pay parity, healthcare, critical special education support, or community schools, the formula is the exact same. Collective bargaining and political advocacy go hand in hand to win stronger contracts for ALL of us! 📚✨
I am running for the CTA Board of Directors for District Q to bring this proven organizing power to the state level. Let’s keep fighting for the working conditions we all deserve! 🪜

Serving alongside so many of you as a CTA State Council Delegate and on the CTA State Legislative Committee, I have had a front-row seat to the incredible power of our collective voice in shaping policy.
It is because of these shared victories that I was incredibly humbled to be named the CTA Higher Educator of the Year and to earn the NEA Award for Teaching Excellence! 🏆📚
These awards aren’t just about me. They are a testament to what we achieve when educators step into the legislative arena together. I’m running for the CTA Board of Directors for District Q to bring this proven advocacy to the table to fight for ALL of us.
Education is the ladder for social mobility, but our union is the safety net. Let’s keep it strong! 🪜✨
