Black Women are often undervalued. The media and society ignore Black Women - even though we lead the world in every field - from entertainment to academia.

Their contributions to the arts & sciences are immeasurable. Let's give them their flowers now!

Activist + author, Angela Davis, says, "In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist. We must be anti-racist.”

But you don’t have to be a scholar to make a big impact on the fabric of our society. Shutting down racism + negativity as it happens dramatically enforces to others that that s**t just doesn’t fly, make sure you:

✨ Self-educate: seek out information and use what you learn to support Black voices, businesses, and causes.
✨ Speak up: you don’t have to be an expert ally to crush hate in its tracks. Call all of that out in the moment, and you’ll help contribute to the movement of real change.

Understand that silence is violence. When you stay silent, you’re allowing those behaviors, ideals, and beliefs to flourish.

Angela Bassett once said, "Don't settle for average. Bring your best to the moment. Then, whether it fails or succeeds, at least you know you gave all you had. We need to live the best that's in us."

I think she says it best. The best to live is within us, and we’re all capable of bringing it to THIS moment. The future is ours to mold. So let’s all stop settling for average, and pursue actual progress...even if we have to fail a time or two to learn the lessons life has to offer us.

Head to .movement if you're ready to really make a change in history and stop following the status quo. We're here to dismantle the system and empower Black voices!

It’s 2006. Buffalo police officer, Cariol Horne, sees a fellow officer’s chokehold on Neal Mack, a Black man under arrest.

What happened next garnered national attention and spurned a 15-year plus legal battle that went all the way up to the New York State Supreme Court April 13th, 2021.

After then officer Horne stopped a fellow officer’s dangerous chokehold on a Black man, she was fired… 😡

After what happened last summer with George Floyd, I don’t think any of us have to think too much on how different this chokehold could have gone. Cariol’s reputation tarnished just as quickly as her pension disappeared, and she fought for years to repair and recover both up until just a couple of months ago.
Then came some justice when the court granted Horne her pension back. And she continues to advocate Cariol’s law, legislation that would require Buffalo police officers to stop other officers when they use excessive force on other people.

I’m grateful for the fight Cariol has dedicated to this cause. This law could potentially save other Black lives in the future.

Let’s celebrate her and her fight!

Shout out to all the amazing women standing powerfully on the cover of popular magazines - how inspiring is it to see representation finally! As Charlene White said, "Black women on the front cover of magazines don’t work, they said. They don’t sell, they said. Let me just sip my tea and leave this year’s prestigious September covers for your perusal." Because... How wrong they were! We can't get enough of these inspiring covers. Swipe through to see a few of them!

Today, I’m making my platform a place to celebrate Jessica Young, co-founder of a staging company called Craft Home. She got her start in the interior decorating and staging space while working in the entertainment industry for many years!

However, she felt she could be challenged and devote herself to something different; so, she left show business and worked for free for six months with different staging companies who managed a portfolio of interior design and decoration projects.

Enter her co-founding her own business with her two partners. Now, she’s a focal point in a legacy of Black entrepreneurship in the midst of a traditionally (and still overwhelmingly) white space.

I love stories like hers, because it shows all Black women that we have a place in these aggressively white industries. To think that she worked for nothing for half a year and ended up co-founding her own staging business is something that motivates me to go after the things I want.

With full force.

This is NOT about support or nonsupport of the police. This IS about one Black woman's actions to save us all! This is about how Black women continue to save the world.

How can we foster freedom for everyone? That’s what Alisha Zellner asked herself biking one day after listening to “Hamilton.” Like in that musical, biking to her wasn’t just a moment. Biking became her movement, her way of joining in with the community and conversation.

A Black police officer, Alisha rolled out of Fort Collins, CO on her bike last July. She biked 400 miles to end police brutality and preserve Black history. That’s 12.9 miles per day!
“Bike Ride for Black Lives,” she called it. This community of local bikers had a goal to raise just $2.5k. But when the local press got word of what she was leading, Alisha was able to raise more than $7k!

Alisha longed to do more to end police brutality and preserve Black history, and she found a way to be part of the movement that will change our future. There’s so much we can all learn from her! She wanted to take action, so she did.

So today, let’s celebrate Alisha Zellner!

Very few people are able to add some grit to their grace. That’s something I’ve always admired about Congresswoman Maxine Waters!

Keep in mind there’s no “right” way to deal with racism. We all handle that a bit differently. Some of us speak up right then and there. Others may not be or feel safe to do so until they share their experience on social media.
But Maxine Waters’ commanding presence on LIVE TV is just so empowering to me. She spoke these powerful words a few years ago on MSNBC after a Fox News host spouted racist (and sexist) comments.

“I am a strong Black Woman. I cannot be intimidated, and I'm not going anywhere.”

So, I want to ask you this: Where are you going?

Acknowledging what progress has been made is fine and well, but progress won’t bring back George Floyd and countless others' lives. What we need is change. We can’t afford to lose anyone else to racism.
