Future of Reading

Our goal is to empower you to manage your child’s engagement with the most essential of all academic skills, reading content and comprehending the meaning of that content so that your child becomes an independent reader. This program provides online reading lessons as part of a multi-year curriculum. We support a reading curriculum that comes with a series of workbooks and a video lesson for each page in the workbook. Five years of research and development went into the product including the most recent findings on the Science of Reading. Each lesson plan is designed to take approximately 30 minutes, some organizations cover two lessons over a 45 to 60-minute period. Your students can learn to read at their own pace, can stop and restart at any point, and can revisit a previous lesson to refresh their prior reading skills. One of the most overlooked aspects in conducting a reading program is the amount of reinforcement that is necessary. Our experience has shown the program to be most effective when each lesson has a “warm-up”. The warm-up reinforces one or more of the key foundational components, such as the “reading code” which establishes a strategy to determine the vowel sound in a word. In the first workbook, Letter Names and Sounds, the warm-up for each session will review the letters of the alphabet and the consonant sounds such as the c in the castle or the t as in tent. In books 2, 3, and 4, the warm-up will review the reading code. This factor of repeating specific reading skills is critical to the development of “muscle memory” type reading skills where a child can easily recall vowel sounds such as the short vowel sound of the i in the word igloo.
