First Westwind Iea show of the season done!!! Thank you to all the parents and riders who pitched in to make this show run so smoothly! I am so proud of our team and all of our riders.

We had to dust off some show nerves day one but the team came back more determined day two with middle school getting champion and high school reserve champion!

Iea is such a great program and provides many opportunities for showing and teamwork that these riders might not get otherwise.

Big thank you to Heather Franco for being coach, show manager and region president extraordinaire!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Best boy Joey helping a new rider learn the basics before she learns to canter! It is very important that riders build skills in a systematic way - only learning new skills when the previous skill is accomplished. At VDE in order to learn to canter our riders must know their posting diagonals and be able to post the trot for two laps around the arena without stirrups! It’s harder than it sounds!

It’s always nice to visit with VDE retirees Cal, Godiva and Luna!! We are so happy that these horses get to live out their lives with the best care at the ranch of previous VDE instructor Farris Scott!

If they can’t walk and steer, they can’t trot and steer.
If they can’t balance at the trot, they aren’t ready to canter.
If they can’t go catch their own horse, groom it, tack it up and take responsibility for it, how are they supposed to lead that horse from the saddle?

Going faster does not equal getting better. Strapping your kid to a horse and sending them into the arena isn’t making them better, it’s setting them up to get hurt.

You might think watching your kid walk circles isn’t exciting. You might think they should be cantering, jumping “doing more.”

But sometimes they’re simply not ready.

And respectfully — that’s why you hired an instructor. Because knowing how and when to progress a rider is our job.

We aren’t holding your kid back. We’re building the foundation that keeps them safe and makes them GOOD.
