I'm excited to announce that the students currently enrolled for online lessons during the "Stay at Home" time now have access to a " Cabin Fever Busters" Facebook group that offers online classes to help beat boredom. Offerings range from toddler music classes to guitar clinics to virtual choir. Check 'em out!
We've gone online to continue providing piano lessons during this "Stay at Home" time! It's a great time to start or resume piano!
Lovely student recital yesterday with piano students of Laura Dickey and Christine Jones!

June Recital this Saturday, 6/18! 5 pm at Kim's Piano, 10200 Beach Blvd, Stanton. Free admission! Plenty of seating and parking available!

Henry at Hills Academy for his Royal Conservatory Music Development Program assessment 21 May 2016. Way to go Henry!
Kudos to Caleb, Katie, and Laura, who all played beautifully yesterday at the MTAC-Long Beach Branch Honors Recitals. Caleb played a Kuhlau Sonatina, and Katie and Laura did a duet by Rocherolle. To be selected for Branch Honors, students must receive a Good or Excellent rating on Sight Reading, Technique, and Repertoire, score 80% or higher on the theory test, and receive a score of 5- (Excellent-) or higher on at least one of their pieces, which is chosen by the evaluator.
Congratulations to Audrey, Caleb, James, Katie, and Laura, who participated in the MTAC Certificate of Merit evaluations this past weekend! All passed with flying colors! Caleb, Katie, and Laura were also selected for the Branch Honors Recital, and Audrey, Katie, and Laura were selected to play at the State Convention this summer!
We recently received a donation of a violin and a trumpet for use by our students! Thanks to our donor!
Our next recital is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 5pm, at Kim's Pianos - mark your calendars!

Students pose with Ms Laura after the MTAC-Long Beach Branch Recital on 2/27/16.
Students enrolled in CM who would like a "practice run" are invited to sign up for the Long Beach Branch "Mock CM" on March 19. Students will play their CM pieces and receive a written evaluation, but will not do the technique, sight reading, ear training, or theory test. Entry fee is $11. Let me know if you'd like to sign up.

Registration is open (deadline to register 2/16) for the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program Spring Session in May and June. (They also offer fall and summer assessments.) This is a national program similar to the state MTAC Certificate of Merit program that some of you have taken, but written theory is done as a separate assessment & is not required at the lower levels. The performance assessments include performance of pieces, technic (scales, etc), ear training, and sight reading.
This program is fairly new, but I have had a few students participate, and all did well and said they liked the program. Students receive evaluation results and a certificate for participating. Parents may register online themselves, or I can sign the student up. See info here:
The nearest assessment centers, with the dates for performance assessments, are:
> Torrance, Sat 5/21
> Palos Verdes, Sun, May 29
> Fountain Valley, Mon, May 30
> Huntington Beach, Sat, June 4 (same day as Long Beach Guild)
Theory Tests are given May 13 & 14 at all centers.
If you are interested in participating or just have questions, let me know ASAP since the registration deadline is next week! Fees vary.
