First graders travelled yesterday to Berea College to visit the planetarium. They also got to explore microscopes and see microscopic creatures living in pond water and got a visit from Jackie the Snake. What an exciting start to our CKLA Space Domain!

Our 4th graders brought their favorite book characters to life in our Book Character Pumpkin Contest - and WOW, did they impress us!! 🌟 With 36 incredible entries, students and their families showcased their imagination, creativity, and attention to detail. During our gallery walk, students proudly presented their pumpkin projects as classes toured the display to admire their work. A huge THANK YOU to all of our students and families for making this such a fun and inspiring event! ♥️👏🏻

First grade wrapped up CKLA Domain 3: Different Lands, Similar Stories today with activities to review the stories we have been learning. We made hats of cunning characters and made a path for Little Red Riding Hood to get to Granny’s house, designed shoes and a carriage for Cinderella, and created our own characters that are the size of our thumb and made a shelter for Thumbelina out of items from nature.

Our fourth graders wrapped up CKLA Unit 2 with a hands-on Middle Ages Celebration! Throughout the unit, students explored life in medieval times - learning about knights, castles, the feudal system, battles, the Magna Carta, and more. They also showcased their writing skills by crafting expository essays on the lives of lords, serfs, knights, craftsmen, monks, and nuns. To celebrate their hard work, students put their knowledge (and creativity!) to the test with STEM challenges - designing and launching catapults and constructing castles. So much learning, teamwork, and fun - bringing history to life!
