Lorenzo Community,

Thank you for your patience and understanding during today’s power outage. After assessing the situation this morning, we determined that it was in the best interest of our students to cancel school for the remainder of the day and begin the reunification process from campus. This decision was based on the power company’s estimate that restoration would not occur until 11:00 a.m. or later, along with our concern that we would be unable to properly care for students, including providing meals, if the outage continued.

Although the power was restored much sooner than originally reported, we were already well into the reunification process at that time. I want to reassure our community that this decision was made with student safety and well-being as the top priority. In situations where information changes quickly, there is no perfect playbook. We acted based on the best information available in the moment, with the goal of protecting students and ensuring that they were safe, supervised, and reunited with families in an organized way.

I want to thank our staff, students, and families for their cooperation during this unexpected event. Our team will conduct an after-action review to identify what worked well and where we can improve. We are committed to learning from this experience so we can make our processes even stronger in the future.

We appreciate your understanding and your ongoing support of Lorenzo ISD. Our priority will always be the safety and care of the children entrusted to us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Gregory Nelson
Superintendent, Lorenzo ISD

Cancelling school due to city-wide power outage. Parents are asked to pick up elementary students at the normal pickup point by the elementary school. Secondary students should be picked up at the high school office area. Parents with students who walk or drive home should text 432-528-0381 and include your name and the child's name if you want them to walk home or drive. You must identify yourself and your child. The students are safe so please rest assured during this process.
