One-Hour Writing Workshop: Finding Stories in the Unexpected
What happens when an ordinary memory collides with a dragon? Or a rom-com trope? Or a ray gun?

This interactive one-hour workshop is designed for beginner writers as well as anyone who wants to reconnect with their creativity. Through a series of playful writing exercises, we'll discover how compelling stories often begin with our everyday experiences.

Along the way, participants will experiment with different genres, invent memorable characters, and learn how writers use surprise, specificity, and imagination to transform ordinary moments into engaging fiction. There are no wrong answers and there’s no pressure to perform. Sharing is always optional.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have written at least one short piece, explored new ways of thinking about storytelling, and gained practical creative tools they can continue using long after the session ends.

Evan E. Lambert is an essayist, journalist, and short fiction author whose work has appeared in People, BuzzFeed, Business Insider, Mic, Going, JRNY, Santa Fe Writers Project, and Aeon/Psyche. He also has a Substack where he writes one 500-word short story every day.
