What's the one thing you wish your child's teacher knew?

We ask this question to every family we meet. Here's some of what Lorain and Elyria parents have told us:

"That the meltdown in the car doesn't mean the whole day is already gone."

"That she's not ignoring directions — she genuinely didn't hear them the way they were said."

"That he's hilarious. His teachers never seem to find out."

"That when she shuts down, she needs quiet, not redirection."

"That he tries harder than anyone in that room will ever know."

None of these are small things. They are the whole picture of a child — and they're exactly what our teachers learn first, before anything else.

Football season is back. So is the "just tough it out" playbook.

We hear this one a lot: "He'll adjust." "She just needs to push through." Toughness culture runs deep this time of year in Ohio.

But grit isn't the answer to a mismatched environment. A kid can be tough *and* deserve a classroom built for how they learn. Both things are true at the same time.

The best coaches don't ask every player to run the same route. They put people where they thrive. Schools should work the same way.

The air changed this week. Did anything else?

Cooler mornings, earlier sunsets, new routines still settling in. Fall is a transition season - and transitions are where a lot of neurodivergent kids struggle quietly.

Watch for the small tells: more shutdowns after school. Homework that used to take twenty minutes now taking ninety. A kid who used to talk about their day and doesn't anymore.

Structure softens transitions. Predictable schedules. Visual cues. Staff who name what's happening before the child has to. Not magic - method.
