History

Established in 1947. After fighting in WWII with his trusty accordion, my grandfather, Edward A. Kos returned with his new war bride, Jarmilla Srp to Sheffield Lake, Ohio. Being a musician, he decided to open a music store and give lessons out of the brick home at 4035 Colorado Ave. After some years Ed had taught his 7 children to play instruments and would bring the kids on tour as "The

Kos Family Band". Greg Kos, the oldest son of the family took over the family business in his 30's. He introduced a wonderful and accessible rental program. He also changed the name of the business to KOSS Music Center, adding an "S" because it helps to pronounce the name and looks more "professional". In 2001 Greg's nephew, Dominic Ricciardi, (that's me) started working at the studio. In time, Dominic took over the now 3 generation business while Greg went to Florida to open another Music Center . Dominic owned and operated KOSS Music Center, which was then located at 2483 North Ridge Rd. Sheffield, Ohio until it caught fire in February 2019. Unfortunately the Music store had to close down and it's future was uncertain. Fast forward to 2020 and Koss Music Center is poised to make a comeback! It's not in the cards because shortly after 2020 starts, the Covid-19 Pandemic starts thusly crippling many small businesses including this one. Koss Music is currently operating by appointment only, but still offers remote lessons. There looks like light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully we will be back to full on operations along with all the other small businesses very soon. Dominic has been teaching students of all ages since 2001, he has studied Jazz Guitar, Piano, and Musical Composition, and can play Drums, Percussion, Mandolin, Banjo, Ukulele, Dobro, Bass, Trumpet, and Cello. He is the head instructor and owner of KOSS Music Center. Dominic enjoys spreading the knowledge of music and believes that it is an integral part in learning responsibility, building confidence, patience, character, and developing a good work ethic. "Music is just a great way to unwind and have fun." gleams Dominic, "I just want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the joy it brings me and the joy you can bring to others."
