Sometimes, during the week, it feels like we have so many cool things going on that it’s hard to keep track of it. But two things that stand out from this week are a visit from Edwin, a manager from Costco. He brought some cool swag for our kids and shared with them some of the ins and outs of working for Costco. One of our students applied that night!

We also had two visitors from AmeriCorps who are serving in a program called The Climate Action Corp. they came to share with our students some of the issues with ocean acidification.

And, we had a visitor from Placer Mosquito & Vector Control District. She shared with us information about mosquitoes and vectors in our area, but she also discussed many of the job opportunities that are offered to people in this field.

Sean also took a group of students out to do a river cleanup by the American River confluence.

Today some of our students had the opportunity to drive out toward Po***ck Pines to visit a SMUD Powerhouse. Thank you to Dan Stricklin for organizing this! What an amazing opportunity to learn about our water and electrical systems and also to learn about all of the job opportunities at SMUD.

We are so lucky to be close to Sierra College. They offer so many amazing opportunities for high schoolers to be exposed to the amazing pathways on Sierra College’s campus. Last week our students were able to go to a STEM panel and talk to students and teachers involved in STEM programs. And then two days later we participated in CTE Day and got even more exposure to the wide array of career tech opportunities Sierra College offers.

We are also always so proud of our students who take the time to go out and see new opportunities.

For her internship, Sophie helped out at Loomis Grammar School. She worked with the VAPA aid to put on a dance program for the TK through fifth graders. It was such a wonderful event! So proud of Sophie for being a part of this.

It was great to have the Placer County Office of Elections out last week. They provide so much helpful information for our students and also get them thinking about some really important topics.
