Mary Oliver’s poetry found its way into several moments at Faithfully Present this summer. We didn’t plan it that way, but perhaps it isn’t surprising.

Her poems so often invite us to slow down, go outside, listen, notice, and delight in the marvelous specificity of the world God has made.

As we head into another school year, we’re also carrying Julie Lowe’s reminder with us: proximity is not presence.

Whether we’re on a nature walk with our students, participating in a CMI course, or gathered around a book, let’s encourage each other to pay attention, be astonished, and narrate to each other.

Why is Charlotte Mason always quoting Wordsworth?

For Kerri Forney, CMI Executive Director, following those quotations became an introduction to the poet himself.

In her chapter of Awakening the Whole Child, Kerri explores William Wordsworth and the influence his poetry had on Charlotte Mason’s thinking. At our CMI Conference this summer, she shared how Mason’s references led her to know Wordsworth in a way she hadn’t before.

One writer leading us to another feels especially fitting for our Summer Stacks.

We’re giving away a copy of Awakening the Whole Child this week. Find our pinned post to enter before Monday.

From “Okay, that’s Greece” to “Ah, Greece.”

That small distinction says a lot about narration.

In Awakening the Whole Child, Dr. Shannon Whiteside, Alveary Program Director, explores narration as an educational practice that honors personhood. In this clip from our 2026 CMI Conference, she shares what happened when she asked students themselves what narration does for them.

One student’s answer gets right to the heart of the science of relations: through narration, something that was information begins to mean something to the student.

And this week, we’re giving away a copy for one more addition to your Summer Stack.

Head to our pinned giveaway post to enter. The giveaway closes Monday!

One of the best things about wrapping up a CMC cohort is hearing what participants are taking back into their homes, classrooms, and schools.

After this summer’s Charlotte Mason Core course, one participant shared:

“I have grown in confidence in teaching Charlotte Mason and have a better understanding of the subjects and the principles I am putting into practice daily.”

That’s what we hope for in these courses: a deeper understanding of Charlotte Mason’s principles and greater confidence in putting them into practice.

Fall Charlotte Mason Courses begin at the end of September.

As a new school year begins, Charlotte Mason schools and communities are growing, and so is the need to connect them with educators who understand relational education.

The CMI Job Board helps make that connection.

Schools, organizations, and others doing work aligned with Charlotte Mason's principles can share employment opportunities with the CMI community. And for educators, it's a place to check when you're looking for your next opportunity.

School leaders: Have an opening to share? Submit it through the CMI Job Board. https://www.cminst.org/charlotte-mason-schools/job-postings

Charlotte Mason believed that educating children begins with educating ourselves.

“That the mother may know what she is about, may come thoroughly furnished to her work, she should have something more than a hearsay acquaintance with the theory of education, and with those conditions of the child’s nature upon which such theory rests.” -Charlotte Mason, Home Education, p. 3

Whether you teach in your home, classroom, or school, the work of teaching deserves thoughtful preparation. We don’t become wiser educators by collecting more tips. We grow by understanding the principles that shape our practice.

Charlotte Mason Courses invite you to study alongside other educators, ask questions, discuss ideas, and develop confidence in the “why” behind a relational education.

Fall courses begin at the end of September.

Dr. Jack Beckman reminded us to pay attention to the “tiny perfect things.”

As we look back on Faithfully Present, we’re reminded that some of the sweetest moments happened between the sessions.

The community felting project that slowly took shape. Folk dancing. Painting. Handicrafts during workshops and keynotes. New friendships. Shared laughter.

None of these moments were the main event.

And yet, together, they formed the atmosphere of the conference.

Charlotte Mason reminds us that education is a life. Perhaps part of that life is learning to notice the gifts tucked into the everyday moments and receiving them with gratitude.

Now that you’ve been home for a couple of weeks, we’d love to know...

What idea, quote, or conversation from Faithfully Present has stayed with you? What made it into your commonplace book?

Need a few more books to finish your Summer Stacks?

At the CMI Conference, we asked attendees what they’re reading this summer. Their recommendations might help you find your next great book.

Now it’s your turn. Tell us in the comments:

📚 Stretch Stack: A book that’s challenging you.
📚 Discovery Stack: A book that’s introducing you to something new.
📚 Comfort Stack: A book you return to again and again.

What are you reading this summer?
