Congratulations on finishing t-4th in the this week in New Mexico. Playing Club Golf in college is an excellent option for high school golfers to consider. What a great option especially if you want to attend a large university that has an outstanding collegiate team already like FSU.

Here’s a glimpse into a week of our College Prep program . I’m giving one student one of his three private lessons on clubface rotation Our program is powered by THRIVE. We have nine weekly 90-minute sessions covering full swing, short game, putting, on-course training along with three monthly zoom calls. This week in particular was focussed on wedge play. These kids are working hard chasing their dreams and I love guiding them.

Congratulations on your exceptional play in the MAAC Championship yesterday. Three under for three rounds! It has been rewarding as a coach to see you thriving in college especially (Nextdoor to where I grew up). It’s not easy to play Division 1 golf. If you have a son or daughter interested in competing in college help them to understand that they need to be scoring between 72-76 in two day ranked tournaments in high school.

This clinic is so fun to run . It sells out each time we run it. Three 90-minute classes focussed on Driving, chipping, putting as well as think box, play box. and I taught the ladies the skills in the first two sessions and then we taught them a nice routine that will help them to play fast, move on after a bad shot and have fun. Golf is a hard game but it’s still a lot of fun to learn especially in a group setting.
Our next class will be in May.
Thank you for helping me to see the line better! I’m looking forward to having you do the same for some of my students! Thanks for your knowledge.
The flop wall was still up this morning after class last night so I decided to talk you through how I like to teach the flop. You may only need this shot once a round, but it’s such a good shot to practice for many reasons. The hinging, unhinging, and re-hinging of the wrists happens in the full swing too but in a much wider arc. I also think you have to learn how to relax your arms to hit this shot well which will help you in Your full swing too. You need to generate a lot of speed out of your wrists and arms which I think is essential for hitting full shots. Watch my student in the end. He did it perfectly!
I’m amazed how many golfers don’t take a practice swing before going into the bunker. I’m not a fan of taking a practice swing in the bunker with an air swing unless it’s a little waggle motion to feel the shot. I want my students to thump the ground before heading into the bunker, especially the female golfer.
These kids put on a flop contest tonight in our College Prep program powered by THRIVE . Notice how wide their stances are, how quiet their feet are and how open their club faces are. The swings need to be big, loose, and speedy. The last shot that hit was incredible.
We finished our nine week program last night and our new semester begins the first week of March. Nine small group classes are included along with three private lessons and three monthly zoom call meetings.
I learned about Tough Luck Golf from . This is an excellent game to play for juniors as they need to deal with the unfortunate breaks that can happen in golf. These kids in our THRIVE College Prep program handled the challenge great. I was allowed to move their ball one time anywhere on a hole within one club length. Give it a try for 18 holes one day with a friend and see what you can shoot.
The main concern by my student was that he couldn’t hit his mid irons well. They were low flighted without any speed. So we got to work. I had to help him feel a few things:
1: head and upper body need to stay behind the ball better to launch it higher, hence the noodle by his front ear.
2: the front elbow needed to fold up rather than wing out. By pulling the arm inward it creates speed similar to a figure skater pulling her arms in to spin faster.
3: fire the wrists and forearms to get the snap at the bottom of the swing. He was use to his upper body trying to create the speed so this was a very new feel. I love the for this training.
Now he can practice with a purpose to create a new pattern.
Being able to aim the body parallel to the target line is very important. I will allow some of my students to aim right if they physically cannot make a full turn but the majority of the time when people aim right they either hit it to where they aimed, as in this case with my student, or they compensate by coming over the top or have to close the clubface too much.
My student was fine with aim if alignment sticks were on the ground but once we aimed at different targets and went through his routine it was clear we needed to build a routine helping him to aim better.
Basically, he had to feel as if his feet were pointing twenty years left of the target to be aimed well. Give that a try if you struggle with a closed stance.
