Often when discussing the topic of the communist forces of the Vietnam war, the Vietnamese Army to the North(PAVN) and the National Liberation Front(NLF) to the south are confused as one group. In reality this could not have been further from the truth. While the NLF was a force formed primarily from civilians, the majority living in villages in the South of the country, the Vietnamese Army, refer

red to as the North Vietnamese Army by the United States or People's Army of Vietnam by the Vietnamese was an actual standing military, armed, clothed, and equipped as any other functioning military would be.

US Soldiers holding up a captured portrait of Ho Chi Minh 1970-

These fabric portraits were fairly common bring backs found in rucks and camps. There’s a few different styles of them all being one sided with two of the more common styles found show here. They were printed or weaved on rayon and silk fabric then given as gifts back home.

Here is an old photo of one from my collection before it was framed.

Welcome to US Army arsenal Viet-Nam

Probably one of the coolest tire ashtrays I’ve seen.
The center is made up of milled steel with a Vietnamese made non-directional tire.

Some photos of North Vietnamese AA reed flak armor.

These were fairly common place with AA teams in the North with the idea to stop incoming fragmentation when firing from a fixed position. No idea how well they worked, but they look extremely heavy.
