Big news for Texas and Parents as Teachers!

We're excited that Parents as Teachers will be represented at the House Ways and Means Work & Welfare Subcommittee hearing on June 25th at 1pm Central, "The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program: Early Support, Lifelong Impact."

Even more exciting, Texas will be represented by our own Shawn Longoria, Director of Parents as Teachers at Community Healthcore in Longview, Texas!

Since 2012, Community Healthcore's Parents as Teachers program has been helping families build strong foundations for healthy child development, school readiness, and lifelong success. Shawn's participation highlights the incredible impact home visiting programs have on children, parents, and communities across our state.

We are proud to see Texas leadership and the Parents as Teachers model recognized as part of this important national conversation about strengthening families through early support.

Our Year 2 families put on their graduation caps and dressed up, as we gathered to celebrate a very special milestone—their HIPPY Graduation! 🎓✨

It was an evening filled with joy, laughter, proud moments, and cherished memories as we honored the hard work, dedication, and growth of our amazing families and children throughout their HIPPY journey. Watching our graduates reach this accomplishment was truly inspiring, and we are so proud of all they have achieved.

Thank you to our families for trusting us to be part of your journey. It has been a privilege to learn, grow, and celebrate alongside you. As this chapter comes to a close, we know there are many wonderful things ahead for each of our graduates and their families.

Nuestras familias de Año 2 se pusieron sus birretes de graduación y se vistieron para la ocasión mientras nos reuníamos para celebrar un logro muy especial: ¡su Graduación de HIPPY! 🎓✨
Fue una noche llena de alegría, risas, momentos de orgullo y recuerdos inolvidables mientras reconocíamos el arduo trabajo, la dedicación y el crecimiento de nuestras increíbles familias y niños a lo largo de su trayectoria en HIPPY. Ver a nuestros graduados alcanzar este importante logro fue verdaderamente inspirador, y estamos muy orgullosos de todo lo que han conseguido.

Gracias a nuestras familias por confiar en nosotros y permitirnos ser parte de su camino. Ha sido un privilegio aprender, crecer y celebrar junto a ustedes. Our H4LL and Year 1 families joined us for a day of fun at the splash pad! 💦☀️

We enjoyed splashing, laughing, and making memories together—even with a few surprise rain showers! 🌦️ It was the perfect way to celebrate a successful year of learning, growth, and achievement.

👀Be informed. Ever wonder what the difference is?

A 504 Plan and an IEP are not the same thing.

Both can help students with disabilities.
But they are built for different needs.

A 504 Plan is designed to remove barriers so a student can access school like their peers.
That might look like:
• extra time
• preferential seating
• breaks
• modified classroom supports
• health-related accommodations

An IEP goes further.

An IEP is for students whose disability impacts their ability to make appropriate educational progress and who need specialized instruction.

That can include:
• specialized academic instruction
• speech therapy
• occupational therapy
• behavior supports
• measurable goals
• progress monitoring

Another important difference:
A student can have accommodations in BOTH a 504 Plan and an IEP.

The question is not:
“Which one is better?”

The question is:
“What does this student actually need to access and benefit from their education?”
