Sunshine Art Studio

Sunshine Art Studio Gwen Riggs-Springerley a.k.a. Ms. Sunshine's Art classes, camps and parties for kids and the young at heART. Just message me for more information! :)

Looking for studio art lessons, or a different kind of birthday party? We will always have acrylic and watercolor painting, like most traditional art studios, but we also explore the studio art experiences of printmaking, weaving, sketchbook /journaling, collage, sculpture and so much more. While students experiment with these mediums they will also learn about the various artists that have used t

hese techniques in the past and those still using them today. Each class has their own blog page that has videos and more information about what we are learning about in class. Coming soon are more pages on art techniques students are interested in as well. Parents and students are also invited to follow me on Pinterest. Students and parents are welcome to send me ideas of things they are interested in too! My goal is to guide student learning to create a love and appreciation for arts/crafts and it's processes. I welcome feedback and ideas from parents and students and will work together with students to help accomplish their artistic goals. PARTIES (Birthdays, Girl's Night Out, Painting Parties & More)

For parties, the guest of honor and I work together (with parents, of course) to pick the art or craft they would most like to do with their friends/family. The studio can accommodate up to 10 artists or I will come to your chosen location to provide set up and clean up for the art/craft part of the party (parents provide any food/beverages). While I do not provide the food/beverages, I can assist families with selecting fun and appropriate types of munchies that would help reinforce their party theme and turn their special event into the party of the year. I love working with parents and kids (and adult party goers too) to find those special details that make their party one of a kind. To make all of this a reality, parties must be booked at least 3 weeks before event date. Please message me to find out more details about parties or art lessons! Looking forward to creating with you!

Each day we read different versions of Cinderella’s story from different cultures and different view points. Artists designed their own ball gowns after learning about how to create them with special guest artist Caroline Walls. They also made their own a tiara/crown, a clay mouse, a magic wand and more. We learned about papermaking, marblizing, fashion design and sculpture! On the last day, they dressed up for the Royal Ball and High Tea. Special thanks to Caroline Walls and Jayelan Roberts for all their help this week! :)

It’s all about the tape at this camp! Duct tape that is…Create a one-of-a-kind wearable, a bag or purse, a wallet and more. We ended up making a duct tape painting instead of making a purse/bag. We also made wallets, stickers, squishies and the girls made a skirt. We stuck together even when things got tough...duct tape skirts are NOT easy, folks! Loved this group! :)

Friday, June 5th - Guest artist Anup Bhandari came to show us a few of his art techniques. He did a short demonstration and then let us try painting with string too! He created one expressionistic style face on eight canvases. Next, Mr. Anup painted a few details and added a mouth. We taped off shapes and the students colored inside the shapes with pastels. We put our "puzzle" back together for a group picture and each student took home a piece of the face, which ended up looking like an abstract expressionistic piece of art. Such a fabulous experience for all of us! Thank you so much Mr. Anup!

Anup Bhandari is an artist and philantrophist from Kilgore, Texas. He is well known not only for his unique artworks but also for his kind heart and his love for the area homeless. He offers free art classes to the homeless and then their art is shown at either the Longview Museum of Fine Art or the Longview Library. The art is auctioned off and half the money goes to the artist and half to Newgate Mission to help fund the art program and other programs for the homeless. He is always giving his artwork to be auctioned off by various organizations to help other causes as well. Currently his work will be auctioned at a fundraiser to help victims from the recent earthquake in Nepal.
