When we teach words like frustrated, overwhelmed, disappointed, hopeful, proud, anxious, or grateful, we give people more than words—we give them a way to understand themselves and communicate what they need.

Learning to regulate our emotions is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. 💛

One of the biggest challenges is expecting children to respond immediately when they are already overwhelmed. When we push, demand, or react before they have had a chance to regulate, we can unintentionally trigger bigger behaviors.

Instead, we can teach them how to pause, cope, communicate, and regulate.

When we help our children develop these skills, something beautiful happens—our own regulation can shift too. We become calmer, they feel safer, and together we create a pattern of connection, trust, and support. 🌱

Regulation isn’t about controlling behavior. It’s about learning how to move through big emotions—together.

Taking care of yourself can start with simple things. Pause. Breathe. Notice how your body feels. Give yourself permission to slow down.

Through sensory integration and SEL (social-emotional learning), we can learn to recognize our emotions, understand our body’s signals, and choose healthy ways to respond.

Try a few simple tools:

✨ Stretch or move your body
✨ Notice what you see, hear, and feel
✨ Name your emotions without judgment
